Mokonyane must deliver on promises - DA

Johannesburg - Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane must
deliver on the promises made in Monday's state of the province address, the DA
said.
"Her track record is not good, however, particularly in
the area of job creation," Democratic Alliance provincial leader Jack
Bloom said.
"Not a single one of the six Township Enterprise Hubs
promised last year have been built, and we are now told that the strategy has
been 'revised'."
The proposed industrial development zone in Diepsloot was
promising, but it needed to happen rather than remaining an unfulfilled
promise.
Late payments
"I am very disappointed that Mokonyane had nothing to
say about paying companies within the statutory 30 days," said Bloom.
"This is because late payments continue, putting many
small businesses under financial strain, with some even going bankrupt."
He said it remained to be seen whether the turnaround
strategy implemented for the provincial health department would be effective,
as the department was still plagued by problems.
"The premier was also silent on the e-tolling of
Gauteng highways, no doubt because Gauteng residents are hugely opposed to
this," he said.
The DA would monitor the promises made by Mokonyane over the
next year, with the addresses to be debated in the provincial legislature on
Friday, said Bloom.
