Mokonyane queen of empty promises: DA

2011-02-24 16:00

Johannesburg - Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane was dubbed the "queen of empty promises" by Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng spokesperson Jack Bloom on Thursday following her State of the Province address.

"Madam premier, you were known as the queen of empty promises when you were MEC for housing. So far, you are repeating that role as premier," Bloom said in the State of the Province debate.

He said Mokonyane could not "wriggle out" of the disastrous decision to toll roads, which would hit already hard-pressed motorists.

He asked how jobs would be created when the government's failure to pay hundreds of companies was forcing many of them out of business, more would be forced out of Gauteng when the toll fees raised the cost of doing business in the province.

"Last year she apologised 'most profoundly' for late payments, but this year we don't even get an apology - just another empty promise," said Bloom.

There were 9 484 accounts of hospital suppliers not paid, amounting to more than R1bn, he said.

Hospitals were breaking down because of a lack of maintenance and equipment failure.

Bloom said emergency response times had sunk to their lowest ever with only 33% responded to within 15 minutes, instead of the international standard of 80%.

"I am afraid the excuses are running out," he said.

"Dear God, Thank you for giving us Helen Zille. Amen"

      TheNewSA - 2011-02-24 16:54

Dear God, Now please make her president. Amen

      theone - 2011-02-25 08:26

Dear God. Let them suffer for the sins of their forefathers until they die. Amen

I do not think you can attribute this title to an individual but rather to the entire ANC government. We are being taxed to death and what do we receive in return - dirty streets, out of order, no up-grade to roads in the suburbs and no thought on how to save hours of motorists time by sincronising robots, no electricity and possibly no water, the most inefficient departments that never answer their telephones, traffic cops that sit behind cameras and do nothing to stop the carnage on our roads. In other words I get NOTHING for my hard earned money that I have to pay to the tax man for this government to waste on the likes of parties for the youth, security for big mouth Malema etc etc

      Rajty - 2011-02-24 18:19

Hi there just to point out that the situation is the same in cape town...and this is a DA led province.

      edward.abrahams - 2011-02-24 18:23

@PAR-WOW! It breaks a South African's heart, what I've just read...words fail me. I must admit that I've never thought of it that way but sadly, its absolutely true...our wonderful ANC is not looking after the people of this beautiful land. And...@Tchaik & @TheNewSA...on a very serious note, I am TRUELY THANKFUL for someone like Helen Zille and the DA. They truly care about us frustrated and broken South Africans. I believe, in time, that things will change but I pray that we don't go the Egypt or Libya root. Take care my fellow South Africans, let make a change, once and for all where it really the voting stations! God bless.

      edward.abrahams - 2011-02-24 18:46

@Rajty - I'm a VERY PROUD Capetonian! And I'm not disputing your comment. Yes, some of PAR's points definitely applies to CT but the DA is aware of these and working on it. Go visit Helen Zille's State of the Province address, it will make you think, it will make you confident and proud with a smile on your face. Remember, as high the aspirations are that the DA has for us South Africans, they are NOT perfect, and that is by their OWN admission(again, read her address on the DA website). Neither am I perfect and neither are you. They have an unselfish vision to FIX things and make life FAAAAR BETTER than what our friends in the ANC think they are doing. Think about this, would you rather have the absolutely corrupt and incompetent, 'who-can-care-less', lazy ANC run our beautiful province, or would you prefer a party with a PROVEN track record like NONE OTHER, namely, the DA, run it? If I were you, I'd count my blessings, the DA is certainly aware of a lot of unsolved problems in CT. Give them a break and if you are unhappy, go and TALK to them about it...believe me...they WILL LISTEN...unlike the ANC. Cape Town is paradise, I know, I live there...enjoy it...there are AMAZING plans on the horizon for us. Next, the DA needs to win other provinces from the frustrating grip of the ANC...lets decide on voting day!

I don't understand this moron (Bloom)- It is directly because of Mokonyane's involvement that the pricing decison on tolls has been suspended. I would suggest Jack Bloom gets himself a copy of 'the secret' and maybe his outlook on the world will be more positive. As for these baseless, premature and frankly false assertasions, rather keep them in the DA Gazzette, the readers on this forum have minds of their own and can't be fooled that easily. shameful, really.

      GH - 2011-02-24 16:23

Been to a public hospital lately? How are the potholes in your street? Have you had an account from City of Joburg lately?

      lldoidge - 2011-02-24 16:24

Takes one moron to recognise another. Don't hide behind "she didn't know" if she didn't know then why not? Isn't it her duty to know what is happening in her province? Besides that toll road was approved by the ANC of which she is an executive member. She's obviously doing her job if something like that can pass her by or was she just snoozing like they all do in parliament? And you are right, we do have minds of our own and certainly not fooled by the likes of you.

      lldoidge - 2011-02-24 16:27

meant to read NOT doing her job!

      GrimReaper10 - 2011-02-24 16:33

@emohex555 Hope you need a emergency response soon.

      DeonL - 2011-02-24 16:40

I agree with GH, TG I work and stay in Cape Town, Had a small problem with an account in Cape Town, fixed today and getting a refund. Last year got a refund of more than R10 000 for a previous home sold. Unfortuanately had to share with the X, Cape Town Mun. Rocks!

      lldoidge - 2011-02-24 16:41

hey, kolobe. You've come back as emohex555. Knew you couldn't keep away!!!! LOL

      Bloodbane - 2011-02-24 17:13

@emohex555 - the problem is, why do we have to explain simple matters to idiots all the time.... ANC made the decision to have the tolls ANC went ahead blindly with out doing propper research... then when everyone complains ANC pins the blame on one person and steps in to say it will hold off while doing more research..... typical idiots... and you actually fall for it, makes you more of an idiot... at least we have the DA if they wherent around this country would allreay be like ZIM

      WillF - 2011-02-24 17:51

Huh? she was boxed in - she didn't have a choice. She did not initiate the furor. Initially she was very quiet - waiting to see which way the momentum was going.

      supporter - 2011-05-24 16:12

  • DeonL - 2011-02-24 16:42

Last year babies died in CHB Hospital because of no paper towels, as accounts were in arrears, If I was a supplier to public hospitals, I would also now only accept cash on delivery!

  • mhlonishwa - 2011-02-24 16:52

is it DA still a political party or finance auditor specialist?

      TheNewSA - 2011-02-24 16:57

      They are specialists in both.

      lmduplessis - 2011-02-24 17:01

You mean the ANC aren't experts in finance? Then what the heck are they doing working with our money?? Well, at least that explains where most of it dissapears to.

      johan - 2011-02-24 17:02

Don't worry unlike the ANC the DA CAN do everything needed to run a country.

      lldoidge - 2011-02-24 17:12

They are running the Western Cape so I hope they are finance auditor specialists (whatever that means) but they are on the button when it comes to balancing the books! And they can explain where every cent went. Can you say the same for your beloved crooks?

      Bloodbane - 2011-02-24 17:14

mhlonishwa - political party with enough sense to get the facts from experts..... unlike the ANC who get their information from criminals

      buddy jones - 2011-02-24 18:07

...they have the integrity and respect to manage both....shame on you!

      Boerseun - 2011-02-24 18:57

Forsure the ANC is experts at being liars, corruptors and thieves.

      citizen36M1 - 2011-02-25 08:03

mhlonishwa - you have just demonstrated why the ANC and its followers, like yourself obviously, should not be any ware near an institution called GOVERNMENT!!

  • Gruntled - 2011-02-24 16:52

Emohex, you see Blooms assetions as baseless and false. I am not sure what your interactions with Gauteng has been recently but they are anything but false. Where you are correct is that the readers of this forum CAN and will make up there own minds.

  • BigMoose - 2011-02-24 16:53

Jo'burg is one big dump. Cape Town and the Western Cape is Paradise, run by the DA. To hell with the ANC and their corruption and incompetence. As one news24 user said, they cannot even run a bath, let alone a country. Every major city mismanaged by these clowns is a disaster. Gaddaffi Street in Durban, what a joke. Time for another name change, hey Sutcliffe?

      Johann - 2011-02-24 17:22

you not serious, gaddaffi street! if it was sombody elses country i would laugh!

  • Mike@CapeT - 2011-02-24 17:50

GADAFFI STREET!!!? ha ha ha ha what a joke - hey Sutcliffe, what else have yo got up your sleeve?

  • wattalotokak - 2011-02-24 18:36

Her and Zuma can actually be crowned - queen and king of empty promises - maybe they do each other hahahaha wouldn't be surprised...

  • Madelane - 2011-02-24 21:14

This ANC led "government" should receive that title as it is truly the story that is repeated over and over at every level were ANC talking suits are involved.

  • Joe - 2011-02-24 21:40

IMHO the whole toll road spectacle will be put to bed until the last ballot paper has been ticked in May. Then it will rear it's ugly head and I will not be surprised if the ANC's "experts' committee" advises that the rate must stay at 66c per km.

  • Boychild - 2011-02-25 08:00

Just been issued an IOU by the ECP, stating they will pay in April for work done in January...... how does an smme survive

  • Dominique Deligianni - 2011-02-25 08:59

She is doing he job "doing nothing". She gets paid to do absolutely nothing like the rest of her comrades, just helping themselves to the coffers and acting stupid.

  • lee.larryblue - 2011-02-25 09:18

All politician are useless, from ANC fools to DA rightious twits......They all make empty promises,.....I dont trust or believe any of them.....and I'll never vote for as long as Im alive.....Dumb-asses...

      edward.abrahams - 2011-02-25 10:45

@lee.larryblue - I'm sorry that you feel the way you do but I must admit you don't have your facts straight. Compare these 2 parties' track record and you will soon find out what I mean. The only fact about your statement is how "useless" the ANC is. Look at the many frustrated people on this forum. Let me remind you, there is NO SUCH THING AS A PERFECT PARTY or HUMAN BEING. My advice to you is go with the one whose fruits speak for themselves...the DA! Look at CT. Do your research. Go and SPEAK to them, they WILL LISTEN and DO something about how you feel. They have a point to prove to the ANC, that they CAN do things FAAAAAAR better. Not voting makes you a 'Dumb-ass'. Have your say at the voting station, THEN and ONLY THEN, COMPLAIN. Right now, you are being absolutely foolish my friend.
