Motlanthe to attend ANCYL lekgotla

2012-02-09 13:12
Johannesburg - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will address the ANC Youth League's lekgotla on Friday, his spokesperson said.

"They do attend from time to time to discuss political issues," Thabo Masebe said on Thursday of Motlanthe and other leaders expected at the lekgotla.

Motlanthe, who is deputy president of both the country and the African National Congress, would not discuss the disciplinary matters that have placed the league's leadership in limbo, he said.

The lekgotla will be held after the ANCYL's national executive committee meeting. It will run until Sunday and media will be briefed on its outcomes on Monday.

Malema to open lekgotla

The ANCYL plans to discuss organisational and political developments and its progress since the last ordinary NEC meeting in July 2011.

Its president Julius Malema will open the lekgotla on Friday.

It is expected to be attended by the ANCYL's top-five officials in all provinces and three leaders per region.

The ANC's disciplinary committee of appeals said on Saturday it had dismissed appeals by Malema, his spokesperson Floyd Shivambu, and four other ANCYL officials to overturn their suspensions.

The four others are deputy president Ronald Lamola, treasurer general Pule Mabe, secretary general Sindiso Magaqa and deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi.

However, their suspensions are on hold while they prepare arguments in mitigation of the suspensions.

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
