My blood is blue: Mchunu

2012-03-17 20:45

Pietermaritzburg - Newly elected Democratic Alliance (DA) leader in KwaZulu-Natal, Sizwe Mchunu has dismissed suggestions that the contest between him and Ziba Jiyane will result to tension between leaders and party members.

Addressing party delegates after his election in Ladysmith on Saturday, Mchunu committed himself to working with all party members, including those who had campaigned for Jiyane.

"You have elected a South African, not a black leader, my blood is blue and I live and breathe DA," Mchunu declared to party delegates after the results were announced.

He added that Jiyane had a significant role to play in ensuring the growth of the party, especially in black communities.

The DA leader also downplayed suggestions that the leadership contest between them had been dirty, threatening to divide the party.

"Some may call the contest as having been dirty, but I believe it was robust contest and the real winner here is the DA," said Mchunu. Addressing the media after the results on Saturday, DA leader Helen Zille said elected leaders had to lead all party members without purging those who had lost.

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
