NNP: Crack down on corrupt cops

Johannesburg - The New National Party called on acting transport minister Jeff Radebe to launch a commission of inquiry into irregularities within local traffic departments across the country.
"It is high time that the minister gets to the bottom of the ongoing corruption and fraud regarding driver's licences so that it can be rooted out once and for all," said NNP spokesperson Keppies Niemann.
He said the "whole process" of testing drivers should be scrutinised for loopholes.
"What more motivation does the minister need than the high death toll on our roads? South Africa has got one of the highest road accident figures in the world."
Niemann said the Arrive Alive campaign would not make a difference if traffic officials continued to be corrupt.
"They are the backbone of road safety and therefore should take up their responsibility to keep our roads safe from reckless and incapable drivers."
