Phosa: No sentiment with nominations

2012-10-05 22:18

Johannesburg - There should be no sentiment in the nomination process ahead of the ANC's national elective conference in Mangaung, the party's treasurer Mathews Phosa told the ANC Youth League's Dullah Omar Region on Friday.

"The process towards Mangaung must be an open and transparent one without sentiment or prejudice," he said in a speech prepared for delivery in the Western Cape.

He said the African National Congress needed to elect leaders who would work selflessly to create a better life for all South Africans.

"Our task as leaders is to look way beyond Mangaung and to ask ourselves what we want to do when our turn comes at the wheel of national leadership."

This meant improving the lives of the majority of citizens through improved living conditions, job creation, and improved education and health services.

"Marikana taught us the lesson that we must not wait for a crisis to wake us up, we must anticipate areas of public tension and address them before they get out of hand," Phosa said.

Aaaaargh! He is begging for a position. What has he done as a treasurer?

      siphom.mnguni - 2012-10-06 04:31

@tsietsi.mshengu:)maybe you should ask what has he done as the then Premier in Mpumalanga? Was it not during his administration that the province earned the infamous \Mpumamanga\? Which meant where the lies emanates from, because of the lies and deceit that emanated from that province. Was it not during his watch that one politician was issued with a license without undergoing a test? Should I say more?

Definitely my brother, Phosa has no backbone, If I had to replace one person from the top six', I would replace him with mme Nomvula Mokonyane as treasurer general.

ANC politics is dangerous. Competition to fierce because of R billions of state coffers to be looted. You can get killed or imprisoned. I'd rather stay away.

      Sifiso Mthembu - 2012-10-06 08:48

You are not even a member of the ANC, judging by your comment. Unless you become member you won't understand ' my ANC, our ANC '. Unless you become a member, you'll understand why the ANC is having more than 1.2 million members in total.

  • rebecca.pooe - 2012-10-06 05:47

\anticipate areas of public tentions\ so if you dont go out and strike in his leadership than you are not complaining, meaning you are fine.

  • mawonga.mose - 2012-10-06 05:49

Keep up the gud work comrade PHOSA we believe dat u cn take dis country 2 the next level ezweni lebanana nobusi bt firstly we mst get rid of Zumaville!

      Sifiso Mthembu - 2012-10-06 08:32

What good work, nonsense. If had to replace one person in the ' top six ', I would replace Cde Mathew Phosa with Cde Nomvula Nokonyane. She has a backbone and smart too, I believe she is a right person to be entrusted with party's treasury.

    Blur blur blur

  • mark.haupt.31 - 2012-10-06 07:42

Mr Phosa, firstly you do not seem to have such leaders, or else surely we would be aware of them? Secondly, we know it's all about the money and power so why attempt the smoke & mirrors? We're not all as stupid as you all seem to think.

  • keithronald.wildschut - 2012-10-06 07:42

Phosa,Sewxale,Faku and others were silent at Polekwane. They are just looking out for themselves. We cannot trust leaders who keep silent if things go wrong,if it suits them.Zuma is maybe not the best president that we can have, but anyone who is in cahoots with Malema and defending him undermining the ANC cannot be trusted.

  • fort.horseman.7 - 2012-10-06 08:35

I think Phosa has the ability to make a difference, but is too much in the back seat.Sorry, but to me manguang, is like a fire department too preocupied tryng to choose a chief, while the houses are all burning.

Good & refreshing debating spirit coming from ANC leader, I would say put Early Warning Systems in place to avoid perpetually waking up in a wonderland - periodically probe socio-economic factors having potential to sow seeds of unnecessary civil unrest. Understand people's needs & aspirations & carefully plan & elect humbled servant leaders with excellent integrity, skills & capabilities to carry the hopes of millions who are still trapped in chronic inter-generational poverty. Respect money and spare no appetite for exorbitant lifestyles as this hit hard on your moral & ethical standards. Fear God & visit place of your worship always, keep praying for yourself & your people & just remain focused & loyal to the cause for all glories belongs to God not unto you

  • abedmakhi.mhlungu - 2012-10-07 21:40

I remember when I was in the meeting of the ANC one guy rose up and says "you can see them talking but they have no followers" When you are a treasure of the ANC, it doesn't mean you are a starring and we will love you by defaults. There is no love by defaults here, the clean up time is coming and most of the people will be history in the next two months.
