North West is the best - Mantashe

2011-02-11 22:31

Rustenburg - Infighting among the ANC in the North West prevents them from realising their potential, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Friday.

"You do not see how good you are because you are focusing on infighting amongst yourselves," he said.

He said the province was the best performing in the 2009 general elections and in the 2010 matric results.

"You do not realise your potential because of the infighting."

Mantashe said the province could produce the best if it solidified, resolved and united.

He applauded the provincial task team (PTT) deployed to rebuild ANC structures in the province for doing a good job.

"You did a good work under difficult circumstances, even though you were not wanted you stood firm and today here we are in an elective conference."

He said the provincial task team co-ordinator, Saki Mofekeng, did not give up when he was labelled a foreigner.

Disgruntled members of the alliance wanted the former ANC youth leader to leave the province saying he was not interested in building the province but was only there to further his financial interests by working for government.

The conference is expected to elect the provincial executive committee that will take over the administration of the party from the PTT.

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe is expected to address the conference on Saturday.
