Pay all Implats miners more, Vavi urges

2012-02-23 20:36

Rustenburg - A pay rise offered to miners at Impala Platinum's Rustenburg operations must apply to all its workers, Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi said in Rustenburg on Thursday.

"The employer started it and he must rectify this issue," Vavi told strikers gathered at a stadium in Freedom Park.

He called for all dismissed workers to be re-instated with the same benefits they enjoyed before the strike. It was unacceptable for a mineworker to take home R2 400 a month.

"It's unacceptable if democracy does not work for workers," he said, waving a payslip from one of the miners.

The money was just enough to pay for taxi fare, he said. Vavi was at Implats' mine to urge workers to end their five-week-long strike.

"A pay rise offered to miners at Impala Platinum's Rustenburg operations must apply to all its workers,..." Who runs the mine?? Vavi?? Should it be handed over to the duo Zuma/Mandela off spring??

Bernmp, this Implats not Phamodzi. Lets be relevant to the story please and stop being unneccesarily controversial.

If it Zuma's offspring that gets the mine, their will be famine, because they will eat all the food.

@Ntsiki: Appreciate your comment but my question "who runs the mine" still stands. Vavi can negotiate but not dictate.
