Plan for Mbeki exit - ID

Cape Town - Should the ANC decide to oust President Thabo Mbeki, it must have a clear plan to deal with the impact of his exit, Independent Democrats leader Patricia de Lille said on Wednesday.
Mbeki's departure could impact on the running of government, service delivery and economic stability, she said.
"The ID stands by its call in February this year, when we submitted a motion of no-confidence to Parliament, for Mbeki to go because of his failure to provide leadership in several key areas, including the electricity crisis, on HIV and Aids, [NPA director Vusi] Pikoli, [police commissioner Jackie] Selebi, and the arms deal."
Friday's Pietermaritzburg High Court judgment declaring invalid the National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) decision to recharge ANC president Jacob Zuma had added further weight to this call, De Lille said.
Earlier on Wednesday, ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe said the party's national executive committee (NEC) would meet this weekend to discuss the implications of Judge Chris Nicholson's ruling.
"The NEC will make any pronouncements after the meeting based on the consensus reached within the NEC," Mantashe said.
