Johannesburg - Politicians and guests will have to pay R5 000 a table to attend an ANC centenary dinner, according to a report on Thursday.

The Star newspaper reported that the event, hosted by the Liliesleaf Farm ANC branch in Midrand, would take place next Saturday and that Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale would be the main speaker.

Branch chairperson Luther Lebelo said the dinner was dedicated to the 49th anniversary of the Rivonia Trial at which leaders of the struggle were convicted of acts of sabotage aimed at overthrowing the government and sentenced to life imprisonment.

It was named the Rivonia Trial after the suburb of Rivonia, home to the ANC's headquarters at Liliesleaf and where 19 ANC leaders were arrested.

Lebelo said Sexwale would discuss the issue of unity in the party and lessons to be learnt from the Rivonia Trial.

Protea Hotel manager Tania Malan told the newspaper more than 100 guests had confirmed their attendance.

Lebelo said only 40 tables were still available. He said the money raised would be used to run the branch.
