Johannesburg - The National Executive Committee of the ANC Youth League has resolved to ask for the "recall" of President Thabo Mbeki.
"The NEC resolved that the President of the Republic must be recalled and will further engage the NEC of the ANC on the possibility of calling an early general election," newly elected spokesperson Maropene Ntuli said.
She said a date had not been set to meet the ANC on this matter, but it should be soon.
The ANCYL held its 23rd National Congress in Centurion from Friday to Sunday.
The youth body also resolved that provinces must examine disciplinary cases and uplift suspensions related to the unprincipled lobbying that occurred in the build-up to the 23rd national congress.
Healing process
"The affected comrades must still be strongly reprimanded and the lifting of the suspensions must not be interpreted as an act of condoning their conduct, but rather an opportunity for them to become part of the healing process and contribute in defending the unity and cohesion of the ANC."
Ntuli said the NEC firmly reiterated that members who continue to associate themselves with factional divisive tendencies had no place in the ANCYL and would be dealt with in terms of its code of conduct.
Zuma trial
The NEC reaffirmed its support for ANC president Jacob Zuma and said Zuma would not only be the face of the ANC's election campaign, but would become the country's next president.
It called upon every ANCYL province to demonstrate its support for the ANC president by participating in the pickets outside the Pietermaritzburg High Court where Zuma's trial begins on Monday, and in their respective provinces for those who could not travel to Pietermaritzburg.
