SA offers to help Egypt

2011-02-12 14:26

Johannesburg - Government has welcomed the decision by Hosni Mubarak to step down as Egyptian president, the international relations and co-operation department said on Saturday.

"The latest events in Egypt represent a victory of the will of the people and marks the dawn of a new era of democracy in Egypt," said spokesperson Clayson Monyela.

The department called on Egypt to begin preparations for democratic elections.

"SA remains ready to support the transitional government in Egypt as it prepares to steer the country towards a new course of freedom and democracy."

Egypt exploded in celebration at Cairo's Tahrir Square after an 18-day uprising forced Mubarak to hand over power to the military, ending three decades of authoritarian rule.

Bwaaaaaah! "SA remains ready to support the transitional government in Egypt as it prepares to steer the country towards a new course of freedom and democracy." Wouldn't it sound better if it were "SA is ready to support the transitional government in ZIMBABWE" or "The latest events in ZIMBABWE represents a victory for the people of ZIMBABWE".
