Sadtu teacher tries 'to run DA's Mazibuko over'

2012-04-14 13:18

Johannesburg - A South African Democratic Teachers' Union (Sadtu) member tried to run over DA Parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko with a car, the party said on Saturday.

"A Sadtu official, Honjiswa Mrwebi, who is also a teacher and chairperson of the Hewu-branch of the union in the Whittlesea area outside Queenstown purposefully and with intent tried to run... Mazibuko over with her vehicle on Friday," said Edmund van Vuuren in a statement.

Van Vuuren was accompanying Mazibuko and school pupils on a 12km walk on Friday to highlight the problems with scholar transport in the area.

"This woman, who openly advocated violence, must be subjected to a departmental inquest and punitive measures instituted against her if found guilty," said van Vuuren.

He said he had started proceedings to have Mrwebi's actions investigated by the superintendent-general of the department of education.

The Dispatch Online reported that Mrwebi had admitted she had wanted to hit Mazibuko with her car because she accused the DA member of “wasting” the children’s time.

Mazibuko on Saturday called the incident a "non-event" by a "rogue teacher".

"It was a non-event. When we were walking on the road the occasional car would pass by and I remember one almost hitting me but I not aware of some evil plot," said Mazibuko.

"I didn't realise who was behind the wheel. I wasn't aware of a plot to harm me. We were not trying to engage this rogue teacher who was trying to create some sort of a ruckus....I don't really care either way," she said.

Sadtu spokesperson Nomusa Cembi said she could not comment on the matter because she was unaware of the incident. Provincial secretary Mncekeleli Ndongeni could not be immediately reached for comment.

Van Vuuren said: "The DA in the Eastern Cape is contemplating laying criminal charges against this woman, who is contributing to the further decay of society's moral fibre."

    Criminal charges must be laid.

      CharlesDumbwin - 2012-04-14 13:43

She must work for the ANC or their Youth League. Typical tyrannical regime behaviour. When the regime dictators cannot handle the threat of another power in politics. This ANC regime is destroying Mandela's democratic vision.

      Assegai - 2012-04-14 13:54

This is disgusting and coming from a teacher in the province with the most dysfunctional education in the country, makes it even more DISGUSTING!

      JaredVN - 2012-04-14 14:00

@Marion - ever heard of the Tripartite Alliance, numbskull? You know, the unholy trinity of the Azanian Native Cancer, the Communists and Cosatu? Well, SADTU is part of...yes...wait for it...Cosatu!!! Idiot.

      Marion - 2012-04-14 14:13

jaredVN - I do not believe you can say with any certainty that she is an ANC member. According to the content of the article we only know of her union affiliation. If that makes me an idiot I wear the badge happily.

      Shirley - 2012-04-14 14:16

Explains why the countries education system is in such disarray! If this is the example set to pupils then we now know why they behave so violently!!!!

      Marion - 2012-04-14 14:17

@Leonardb1 - So glad you remember what Oom Koos said to me last week 'cos I certainly don't remember what he ever says. I've got a man who is more than capable of looking after me sexually thank you. Can your wife / girlfriend say the same?

      Trudy - 2012-04-14 15:05

      With you Marion

      Marion - 2012-04-14 15:17

@Leonardb1 - I totally meant to hurt your feelings (although I did feel very bad after posting the comment 'cos it's not really in my nature to be plain mean). Being a woman who enjoys male company more than female company I know exactly what it means when a man says that a woman needs a man. The reason I spend so much time on the site is because I am housebound (and totally bored) due to a medical boarding and talking to (sometimes fighting with) you guys is better than talking to and fighting with myself. And I do enjoy my happy situation. Very much. :-)))

      farmfreund - 2012-04-14 15:36

What is more worring is that she was preparded to put the childrens life on the risk as well.

      bradlesliect - 2012-04-14 15:37

Indeed they must be...its another strategic move to get someone into the upper ranks of political parties...The ANC has proved that a requirement for ANY job in their party top ranks is to have a record...so...join the ranks

      bluzulu - 2012-04-14 16:05

@ Marion; Stay strong with your conviction to Non-Bias Non-indoctrinated posts. I think you are a great example of a New RSA citizen.

      Irma - 2012-04-14 16:20

I agree that this individual should be prosecuted. It's clear though that some people have a very naive faith in democracy however. Plenty evidence from all over the world of bad people getting voted into power and running amok, sometimes getting re-elected over and over. Surely someone living in South Africa cannot be such a simpleton as to not be aware of this deficiency of democracy? The founders of the US knew it and even said that sometimes the only way to guarantee freedom is through violence.

      elewies - 2012-04-14 16:50

Lindiwe's response shows pure class. No trying to milk the situation for some political gain.

      Morama - 2012-04-14 17:27

There's no need here Flysouth...leave these morons to embarass themselves anyway their reasoning capacity is up to crap!!!

      tobydt - 2012-04-14 17:58

      JaredVN / Leonardb1 - Douchebags.

      tobydt - 2012-04-14 19:42

Leonardb1 - Difference between 'being called worse' and 'actually being' a prick.

      Bert - 2012-04-14 21:35

malusi, she admitted she wanted to hit her with the car and is known to advocate violence. Read the article before commenting.

      Jacqui - 2012-04-15 11:41

Malusi where hate rules, sanity has flown out the window.

      Lerato - 2012-04-16 15:58

Did Mazibuko finish the 12km march !!! Just asking

  • mholthuysen - 2012-04-14 13:25

The success of the Eastern Cape education - no wonder if morons like this are in charge. Charge her and lock her up. But with the protection of the ANC nothing ever will happen to her....

      Kolobe - 2012-04-14 18:02

if one wanted to hit lindiwe they would never miss plus she was jay walking in a group

      Balan - 2012-04-15 05:12

@ Marion and Malusi.Mtetwa surely must have educated in one of those EC schools.

      Balan - 2012-04-15 05:14

@Kolobe, You are a KOLOBOSH TROLLOBE

      Rational100 - 2012-04-15 08:25

If attempting to run over someone was a crime, we wud not have any taxis on the road today....

      Christopher - 2012-04-16 10:36

@Kolobe, Pedestrians have the right of way.

  • Matthew - 2012-04-14 13:27

How completely tedious, asinine, banal. The DA are as boring and whingy as the ANC is corrupt and immoral. Politics really sucks in this country.

      Kevin - 2012-04-14 13:45

Are criminal actions are ok because they bore you? I hope when you are the victim there are competent police for you to report the crime to.

      Polotic - 2012-04-14 13:54

@SubGenius - I would think that trying to run over a person and potentially causing serious injury can hardly be described as completely tedious or banal. This is the first reported incident of its kind. I would asgree with asinine but to describe the actions of the Sadtu official who has admitted to the incident. Lindiwe's credentials are impeccable. Interesting to note how she down plays the incident.

  • Wesley - 2012-04-14 13:28

Now sadtu worry about wasting time, they are so stupid

      cedjonkers - 2012-04-14 15:06

They totally forgot about how they wasted time with their "go-slows" and strikes! Or maybe only them may waste pupils' time!

      Rational100 - 2012-04-15 08:28

It's not SADTU that attempted this but a motorist ...finish and Klaar!

  • johncarlos.biza - 2012-04-14 13:28

Overhyped. Move on DA and come off it the better man.

      CliveK - 2012-04-14 13:55

So it's acceptable to try and kill someone because you disagree with their politics? Move on ANC and its supporters: we are supposed to be a democracy in which political differences are not settled by primitive acts of violence.

      johncarlos.biza - 2012-04-14 16:05

I took Mazibuko's side based on what she said above, not any political party's/union etc.

      Jacqui - 2012-04-15 11:45

What has the DA got to do with it?.

      johncarlos.biza - 2012-04-15 21:18

Focus on the article as much as you do to the comments. "The DA in the Eastern Cape is contemplating laying criminal charges against this woman"

  • June - 2012-04-14 13:28

This is disgusting. When are our govt going to take action for this type of thing. I am still reeling about the taxi driver who ran over a pedestrian TWICE!!!

  • Ian - 2012-04-14 13:32

charge this thing with attempted murder

      CharlesDumbwin - 2012-04-14 13:44

This 'thing' is ANC no doubt, she will get away with murder ...

      David - 2012-04-14 13:49

The DA is always crying, the ANC is the one that is providing transport to children to go to school with.

      Irene - 2012-04-14 13:54

David ~ And if the DA was in power the kids wouldn't be needing transport to school as the school would be right there for them within walking distance. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

      SarcasticAgnostic - 2012-04-14 14:09

David, correction. The Tax-payer is providing transport...

      Marion - 2012-04-14 14:12

@David - there are obviously problems with transport in the area otherwise the DA wouldn't have marched with the pupils. As the official opposition the DA should draw attention to any deficiencies. It has nothing to do with the DA 'crying'. If anyone is crying it is the pupils themselves.

      TheRealTruth - 2012-04-14 14:22

David you must be a member of the ANCYL, you probably some senior position. I say this because your lonely brain cell seems to be crying out for attention...

      Ilze - 2012-04-14 14:27

      Nice one Irene!

      Balan - 2012-04-15 05:22

@ David, anc does not know anything about providing transport, therefore the transport system is in shambles YOUBIGFARKINGIDIOT.

      Jacqui - 2012-04-15 11:46

David, if the ANC provide transport why were these children walking then?.

  • Rose - 2012-04-14 13:39

      Marion - 2012-04-14 14:00

Rose, I hate to agree with CharlesDumbwin, but I also don't totally understand what you just said.

      Ilze - 2012-04-14 14:30

@Marion, ditto :-). But Shame, leave poor Rose alone you guys. One get so shocked at these people's idiotic behaviour sometimes that the words don't seem to come out right...

  • Luviwe - 2012-04-14 13:41

  • israel.khumalo - 2012-04-14 13:43

Haiyi khona, this story is a fat lie just like Lindiwe. And Lindiwe was walking on the road, that must be very dangerous.

      Themba - 2012-04-14 13:49

And you are on a computer spewing off stupidy and ignorance? That is very dangerous

      Mark - 2012-04-14 13:53

yes Israeli. Especially when a dis-assembled meccano set is at the offending wheel using a vicegrip for navigation.

      Marion - 2012-04-14 14:02

Yes israelk, anything you say. Lindiwe can still lose weight if she wishes to. You have an ugly spirit and I doubt whether anything can be done about that.

      SarcasticAgnostic - 2012-04-14 14:11

Read again. It is not Lindiwe making a fuss. She doesn't really care.

      Shirley - 2012-04-14 14:44

Your mamma didnt each you any manners! I gather everyone in your family is anorexic???

      Polotic - 2012-04-14 14:44

@israelk - It appears that you did not read the report or if you did, very superficially. Read it again and you will see that the Sadtu official admits to an attempt to run down Lindiwe. So where is the fat lie. Or are you so warped in your thinking that you cannot face the truth.

      Mc - 2012-04-14 15:07

      TheRealTruth - 2012-04-14 14:25

I agree with Irene. This is a writer's forum, do you get that? Nobody is going to take you seriously with your SMS language.

      Jeffrey - 2012-04-14 14:32

@Irene, Christinah obviously has been educated in the E.Cape. That's pretty good spelling and grammar by E.Cape standards.

Christinah, I hope you don't work in an office somewhere.

  • Themba - 2012-04-14 13:48

Typical ANC hooliganism. They have no concept of what democracy means. If one belongs to another party their house get burnt down in the townships. SA must be a one-party state to be looted by them and everybody (ANC hooligans) will be happy

      DuToitCoetzee - 2012-04-14 14:43

I was not planning to comment where party politics get mentioned, but this copied part: "...no concept of what democracy means. If one belongs to another party their house get burnt down in the townships. SA must be a one-party state to be looted..." let me sometimes also wonder. Well said!

  • Marion - 2012-04-14 13:51

This woman is a loony teacher and needs to be charged with intent to do grievous bodily harm and removed from her teaching post in order to keep pupils safe from her. Someone like this is capable of anything. Love the way Lindiwe dismisses it as a non-event. Well done for not descending into the gutter with her Lindiwe.

  • Bonga - 2012-04-14 13:52

DA "we gonna ride this till the wheels fall off" really now come on man,how can a car miss a lady of Mazibuko's size still she's walking in a group and tries only to run only Her over, me thinks news24 including Mr Van Vuuren are pushing for sensation here....

      Themba - 2012-04-14 13:55

A car can miss a woman of Lindi's size because the driver is a dumb teacher who probably also bought her licence

      goyougoodthing - 2012-04-14 14:28

ANC 'we gonna ride refugees till we fall off the gravy train' toss buckets

      Shirley - 2012-04-14 14:41

Bonga: If it was an anc member you would be beating out another tune on your drum!

      Balan - 2012-04-15 05:50

@ Bonga, "ride till the wheels fall off" then you will be going into the Donga and calling the DA to rescue you, BLOODY IDIOT

      Jacqui - 2012-04-15 12:12

Bonga, where did the DA say anything?. I am astounded at the amount of fat remarks made by some men here. Typical male chauvenitic pig behaviour. Lindiwe acted in a mature manner and all you can do is comment on her size. Now if she were ANC and someone tried to run her over, heavens that would have been totally a different case wouldn't it?. Hypocrites.

      Bonga - 2012-04-15 13:38

@Jacqui there is nothing wrong with her size I mentioned that to highlight the fact that she's not a particularly a fast cat now isn't she? I quote if you are still asking if the DA said anything "Van Vuuren said: "The DA in the Eastern Cape is contemplating laying criminal charges against this woman, who is contributing to the further decay of society's moral fibre.". Thanks and again there's nothing wrong with being thin, fat or whatever size.

      tersia.louw.12 - 2012-11-22 21:41

Firstly, nowhere in the description of "beautiful" is the word "skinny". Secondly, Ms Mazibuko's size is surely not the issue; that a teacher tried to run her over IS the issue. Thirdly, Ms Mazibuko (unlike the ANC would do) is showing her sheer class and playing the incident down. Bonga, please wind your neck in.

  • CliveK - 2012-04-14 13:52

If this is true - and it probably is given the recent history of this union - it is another sad day for education in this country. These are the people who are supposed to be educating the country's youth.

  • Irene - 2012-04-14 13:53

      TheRealTruth - 2012-04-14 15:29

@thapelo it had nothing to do with finance, it has to do with a better, safer society being promised. How you read finance into that I'll never know. Clearly your education isn't really up to scratch, especially seeing as though you can't even comment on the correct thread...

This 'story' sounds too good to be true. If there's any fact to this fabrication, the DA/ Lindiwe have the right to lay criminal charges against the 'culprit' instead of trying to draw media attention (unnecesarily) and Lindiwe better stay careful when walking (on the road) so that 'events' like this don't happen in future.

  • HugoMabasa - 2012-04-14 14:04

    really

Looks like you touched a nerve with anish.nirta. Obviously she realises what happens when educated people leave this hell hole.

      Carlton - 2012-04-14 15:00

I actually wish I was typing this on my way out. Good luck in becoming a carbon-copy of Zim. In advance, which African countrie's borders will you be jumping? :-p

anish.nirta is your caps lock key perhaps sTiCKy?

      marijke.teirlinck - 2012-04-14 15:47

funny how when they get to Aus/UK/Canada all they want to do is eat biltong, go to spur and the SA shops, listen to afrikaans music and watch SA rugby, and cry about leaving their beautiful country. Good luck dude.

      Marion - 2012-04-14 16:32

@marijke - I agree with you on that one. However, having said that, I must say that I have a son who is farming in NZ and he doesn't hang out with Saffa's and is about to get his citizenship. From the first day he arrived there he has embraced the NZ culture fully. One of our SABC presenters who went to the USA also said that she hangs out with Americans, not South Africans. Said she couldn't see the point of going to another country and then gravitating to a SA circle of friends.

      Thando - 2012-04-14 18:01

      Go home..........

      bluzulu - 2012-04-14 18:15

      Balan - 2012-04-15 06:27

@ Marijke.Teirlinck, I don't cry about leaving South Africa, but however now I cry about you.

  • arthurcharlesvanwyk - 2012-04-14 14:19

We get that Mrwebi was wrong, but Mazibuko's response is straight condescending.. for all we know Mrwebi might be an excellent school teacher who just doesn't like Lindiwe Mazibuko and saw the outing with the kids as political point scoring. Is that what she thinks of everybody that doesn't support the DA or want to cause her harm?

      Adil Smit - 2012-04-14 14:34

In a society where life is valued, doing something like this is viewed in a serious light, especially when done by a role model for children whose salary is paid by tax-payers.

      Adil Smit - 2012-04-14 14:40

You would also hope that a teacher would be mature and stable enough to know that when you disagree with someone's political views, you can say it but trying to hit someone with a car is not really acceptable. What if a child in this teacher's class has family belonging to a different political party?

  • Jerry - 2012-04-14 14:23

News24 and their sensational headlines. What has SADTU have to do with this?

      Adil Smit - 2012-04-14 14:30

The teacher is a SADTU official

      William - 2012-04-14 15:45

Jerry did you read the article carefully?

  • somikazi.pita - 2012-04-14 14:28

    Now that's just stupid!

  • siyadyosiba - 2012-04-14 14:40

I'm glad that Mazibuko escaped unharmed. If proven that there was intention to harm Mazibuko, the teacher should be disciplined.

  • Anton - 2012-04-14 14:47

I doubt it was intentional, hitting her would cause immediate write-off!\r\n\r\nGet over it Van Vuuren, worry about more pressing matters.

      tersia.louw.12 - 2012-11-22 21:49

Jeez, read the bloody article! She admitted wanting to run Ms Mazibuko over! So then, yes, intentional!

  • michelle.kirsten - 2012-04-14 14:49

As a teacher I had to laugh at the \racist\ comments as most of the kids I teach would rather see it as a TEACHER who messed up, therefore all TEACHERS are evil and should be disregarded..they are so uncomplicated that when teachers behave badly they think all TEACHERS are like that, lol. Tomorrow I will hear \ma'am, why do u teachers not like the DA?\

      michelle.kirsten - 2012-04-14 14:52

      Monday, I mean ;)

      Jacqui - 2012-04-15 12:23

Michelle, I feel sorry for you. Teaching kids and not knowing what the day is. Geez.

  • Grace - 2012-04-14 14:53

This story doesn't make sense... The accused admits attempting to run someone over and the 'victim' seems almost unaware and unconcerned about the incident. I'm confused lol...

  • Angeline - 2012-04-14 14:56

Do not tar all teachers with the same brush....this is an issue that has nothing to do with the profession - rather it should be investigated as a possible criminal action of one civilian against another civilian. The political affiliations, profession and professional affiliations should be left out of it for now. IMHO, another piece of sensationalist reporting...tut tut

      Marion - 2012-04-14 15:51

@Angeline - don't you know by now that on News24 if the cat has kittens it is either the ANC or the DA's fault? Although I admit that I do have a concern about a teacher of this caliber having access to kids because if she can react in this fashion she could cause harm to a child on one of her 'bad' days.

  • Clive - 2012-04-14 15:08

Great South Africa. Democracy at work. You can run down anybody with your car who doesnt agree with you. Our children's futures are in good hands with SADTU behaving in this fashion. This is why the EC education situation is in the mess that it is in! Shame on you SADTU, when you are out of answers to explain your lack of performance or ineptitude you resort to violence. Whats wrong with the country, has God forsaken us?

  • Tony Lapson - 2012-04-14 15:23

Mazibuko knew, she is just trying not to make a big deal out of it.

      Jacqui - 2012-04-15 12:25

Tony, Mazibuko said it was no big deal. How about getting real?.

  • maseratifittipaldi - 2012-04-14 15:23

This is a very irresponsible and stupid thing to do. Extensive damage can be caused to the radiator grille, the bonnet, the radiator itself, the front valence as well as the fenders. Even the windscreen can suffer damage. Once a car has been to a body shop for repairs, it is never the same again. Even with the best workmanship there will still be a niggling reminder of the destructive impact to the car body. There is also the possibility of airbags deploying during the impact. These will then have to be reset at considerable expense. The vehicle downtime is another factor which will have a negative finacial impact on the owner.

      Tony Lapson - 2012-04-14 15:35

      tl;dr

      HugoMabasa - 2012-04-14 16:09

I hate to disagree with you.Poor Lindi(tea girl)'s life was in danger here

  • Carlton - 2012-04-14 15:42

@ Marion u go girl...we need more brave outspoken ppl like u on this site and in this country of ours....MARION for PRESIDENT

      Marion - 2012-04-14 15:55

@Dawood - nice to know that not everyone thinks that I should be hung, drawn and quartered. Thank you. :-)))

      Liz - 2012-04-14 17:32

@Marion- actually Marion I always read your comments because they are well articulated and you can get into debate without derogatry remarks and gutter language and insinuations. Your points of view are not predictable and always worth reading. They are not a knee jerk reaction blaming the ANC and extolling the virtues of the DA or vice versa. So please keep writing and continue to be a welcome balanced voice of reason on this channel that seems to thrive on insult and counter insult which takes this country nowhere.

      Marion - 2012-04-14 17:37

      Thank you Liz.

      Ngaka - 2012-04-14 18:47

      HugoMabasa - 2012-04-14 16:10

thats a stupid comment Julie and you know it,is it because she is black?

      William - 2012-04-14 16:23

@HugoMabasa Do you realise that you are racist, and guilty of hate speech? There is no place for the likes of your poison in this beautiful country...

      HugoMabasa - 2012-04-14 16:46

TheRealTruth maybe I am hey,who knows(except you)?dont you find Julie's comments about her not being hurt by a car offensive. You lot seem to prove my point. Here is a white man and white woman supposedly vouching for a party whose junior leader(black) is the same person they have decided to make fun of and go on to label anyone who points this out to them as racist.see the irony

      William - 2012-04-14 17:00

Irony? You assume because I support DA I'm white? My name is William Mokoena. My Mother and father are from Qwa-Qwa, Phuthaditchaba. I'm probably blacker than you. Difference is that I'm educated enough to see that the ANC government is failing. I've faced antagonism from family and friends. But the DA is truly non-racial.

      HugoMabasa - 2012-04-14 17:10

that is hard to believe.I must say your family is one of a kind.My mate, member of BMF and ANC is dating a staunch DA girl who was active at UCT.She is close frindes with Lindi. She faces no antagonism from us or any one else.Your friends an family should hang their head in shame for giving you hell for your political inclinations iff. . .

      Jaja - 2012-04-14 17:17

Hahahahahaha! Really sorry for what almost happened to lindiwe, but I just find this whole episode really hilarious. This teacher has balls!

      Marion - 2012-04-14 17:31

@TheRealTruth - Eventually the future we envision for our beloved country will become a reality. I just hope I don't die of old age before then.

  • Frans - 2012-04-14 16:07

To all those idiots making fun of Miss. Mazibuko's figure or suggesting that she should have been hurt:(1) Do you have a perfect body? (2) Remember you've got parents and or children walking the streets daily. Good day to you all.

      William - 2012-04-14 16:24

From your pic it looks like you have the perfect figure ;)

      HugoMabasa - 2012-04-14 16:49

this man called truthsomething made fun of her with another white woman. When I pointed this out to her ,he called me racist. My heart bleeds for Lindi,a very beautiful and intelligent black woman. Her work seems to be despised by the very people she is trying to serve.

      Frans - 2012-04-14 18:07

Hugo I fully agree with what you said about Miss. Mazibuko. Unfortunately I didn't see Truth's discussion with this other person so I can't comment on that. What I can say is I condemn any form off degrading regarding peoples bodies because no one is perfect. It's regarded as a form of bullying and it's childish.

  • William - 2012-04-14 16:30

I am so amused because every ANC member has to resort to 'fat' comments about Lindiwe, because they have NOTHING else! Never mind that the ANC has more fat people then I've ever seen in my life, how they all fit into parliament I'll never know...

      Adri - 2012-04-14 16:33

No all of us are ANC members we merely raising our opinion, don't decide for others, speak for yourself.

      anish.nirta - 2012-04-14 16:51

As A black person it's either I vote DA And be a slAve of the \non-rAcist whites\ or\r\nVote ANC, get pregnant and get a child's grant, an rdp house and possibly an allowAnce being HIV positive....oh and ja, subsidies for stAying in the rural areas.\r\nUhhhmmm let me think...

      William - 2012-04-14 17:03

No you idiot, I didn't support Julie's comment, I was taking issue with your blatant racism.

      anish.nirta - 2012-04-14 17:13

No you realdumbest, you don't have to explAin anything to me sweety, I wAs just considering my options

Anish, i don't know if I have to laugh or cry. Blimey, that's not a nice picture you are pointing there.

  • Manu - 2012-04-14 16:45

Obviously if the teacher tried to run over Mazibuko then that is definitely criminal. No question about that. But two things troubled me about this story. Firstly, why politicians have to inject themselves into these kind of issues, especially where children are involved? Keep in mind that children walking long distances to school is not an isolated problem. I know that policitians need publicity to raise their profile but please don't use children. Tomorrow it will be somebody else doing the same. I don't think that anyone would want their kids used in this fashion. Secondly, why is the problem identified here as a lack of transport? If a child has to travel 12 km to get to a school then surely the problem is lack of schools and not the lack of transport.

      HugoMabasa - 2012-04-14 16:57

cheap politicking if you ask me,which is fine if they dont involve the kids.Imagine the short ones having to walk for 12km for some politician to score cheap shots

      Marion - 2012-04-14 17:27

@Manu - it is impossible to build schools in all the rural areas that will result in kids not having to walk long distances. However free or subsidized transport should be provided to get them to school if they have to walk long distances. The DA, unlike other parties, didn't go into a school during school hours to make a point. @HugoMabasa - the short ones may be walking 12kms to school every day anyway. Imagine the little ones having to do that five days a week. The teacher should have offered to give some of them a lift instead of trying to drive into Lindiwe.

      Manu - 2012-04-15 11:55

Marion, whether it is during or after school hours makes no difference. There is clearly a social cause that needs to be promoted here. But when a politician gets involved the cause and the politics become entangled. Now when kids are drawn into this entanglement then we have social tragedy. I certainly would not want a child of mine involved in cause that maybe politically tainted (whatever the politics or politician maybe).

  • gailcarolynhayes - 2012-04-14 17:16

I think that this is actually poor reporting as Miss Mazibuko was walking in a group of which Mr Edwin van Vuuren was a member together with pupils and they were on the road. Roads are for cars and not people and while it is highly possible that this opposition Mrwabi who was driving in a car on said road came dangerously close to Miss Mazibuko and the group, nobody was injured in the slightest and while it may be Mr van Vuuren's perception that the car was aimed directly at Miss Mazibuko I believe that this is not even newsworthy. NOBODY was injured and some drivers may have been driving somewhat recklessly but then that area is known for its reckless driving and high accident tendencies. Why must everything be about politics and crime and fraud? If this had been an ANC led march would it have read ANC leader deliberately aimed for by car driven by DA member.? Who cares? A miss is as good as a mile.

      FinalJustice - 2012-04-14 19:31

Did you actually READ half the article, @gailcarolynhayes? You may have missed out on this part: \The Dispatch Online reported that Mrwebi had admitted she had wanted to hit Mazibuko with her car because she accused the DA member of “wasting” the children’s time\

  • Blessed Ndlovu Maratuza - 2012-04-14 17:17

    cheap n childish politics mazibko

      Marion - 2012-04-14 17:43

@Blessed - if you read the article you will see 'the party' represented by Van Vuuren, has made an issue of this. Lindiwe treated it with the contempt it deserved.
