Sanco against opposition party unity

Johannesburg - The SA National Civic Organisation (Sanco)
does not support the fact that opposition parties are working in unity ahead of
the 2014 national elections.
"We are planning a massive revival of the civic
movement which will take the challenge to the various households of the
grass-roots to ensure that this DA (Democratic Alliance) led unholy
coalition...is totally crushed and humiliated at the polls next year,"
spokesperson Dumisani Mthalane said on Saturday.
On Friday, eight opposition parties held a media briefing to
express their "extreme disappointment" in President Jacob Zuma's State
of the Nation address, delivered on Thursday.
Parties present were the African Christian Democratic Party,
Azanian People's Organisation, Congress of the People, Democratic Alliance,
Inkatha Freedom Party, Freedom Front Plus, United Christian Democratic Party,
and United Democratic Movement.
Cope leader Mosiuoa Lekota said opposition parties had
recognised in November 2011 that there was a need to work together.
"We are busy with this process [of] building a common
unity among opposition parties."
Democratic Alliance's parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko
said talks were ongoing on how opposition parties would work together during
next year's national elections.
