Cape Town - The start of the ANC’s Western Cape conference was delayed by a few hours on Saturday.

Spirits remained high though outside the venue as members mulled about, waiting for proceedings to start.

According to the programme, proceedings were to start at 09:00, with the final item listed to start at 21:00.

At 14:30, the accreditation process had still not been completed.

Provincial ANC spokesperson Yonela Dika was only able to confirm that proceedings would convene “shortly”.

The conference is taking place at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s Bellville Campus after plans to host the event at the Cape Town International Convention Centre fell through.

The planned sponsor failed to pay for the CTICC by Wednesday.
