Cape Town - The process for changing Western Cape place names, as well as for streets and buildings, is to be speeded up, says Chris Stali, the province's MEC for cultural affairs and sport.
In answer to a question posed by the Democratic Alliance in the provincial legislature, he said names had to reflect the history of everyone in the province so that everyone could identify with them.
He recently unleashed a storm when he said that all names with colonial connotations in the province had to go.
The Western Cape's premier, Ebrahim Rasool, said a few days later that the issue should be handled sensitively.
