Suspected rapists arrested

Johannesburg - Fifty two people were arrested for crimes ranging from gambling to rape during a police operation in Daveyton near Benoni on Friday night and Saturday morning, Gauteng police said.
Captain Alfred Nakana said the operation lasted from 20:00 until 04:00.
People were arrested for assault, rape, drinking and driving, gambling and drinking in public.
Police also arrested six illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe and Mozambique. They would be deported to their home country on Monday.
During the same operation, police raided an illegal shebeen, Nakana said.
Police confiscated R3 000 worth of alcohol and chased the customers away, he said.
The 53-year-old owner, who runs a butchery during the day, was given a R1 500 fine.
The people arrested for minor crimes were released on Saturday morning and given a fine.
Those arrested for more serious offences were expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate's Court on Monday.
