Time to wake up, SABC told

Johannesburg - The Young Communist League (YCL) of SA lashed out at the SABC on Thursday, saying it needed to get "its ducks in a row" after it delayed the broadcast of Bafana Bafana's game against Serbia by 90 minutes.
"The SABC should strongly consider changing its tagline from 'vuka sizwe' [wake up the nation] to 'lala [sleep] sizwe' because that is exactly what the nation will resort to as a result of their inefficiency and defunct service to the public," YCL spokesperson Gugu Ndima said in a statement.
The soccer game on Wednesday evening was scheduled to have started at 19:00, but the SABC only started its broadcast after 20:30.
"We are more prone to hear about paying our TV licences as opposed to how it will ensure that it gets over the embarrassing debacles that it continues to get itself tangled in," said the YCL.
The youth league said the government had been at the forefront of encouraging South Africans to support Bafana Bafana, but on Wednesday evening the supporters were let down.
"I'm not sure if the concept of 'live' games still needs to be thoroughly explained to the SABC team," said Ndima.
