Tshwane ANC council to be disbanded

Johannesburg - The regional general council (RGC) of the ANC's Tshwane branch faces disbandment amid "rampant violence and intimidation," says the regional chairperson Masket Mtshweni.

Mtshweni, who is also an ex-officio member of the ANC's Tshwane regional executive committee (REC) said on Sunday that the move had been "prompted by a number of unsavoury events that were taking place leading up to the regional conference to be held soon.

"The assault on ANC members in Hammanskraal and Mamelodi; the use of Tshwane metro police to harass and even prevent ANC members in good standing to attend branch biennial general meetings whilst the REC stands idly by and not acting against those implicated bear testimony to the REC's factionalist tendencies and timidity," he said.

Mtshweni said of the 81 branches that held branch biennial general meetings, 40 of them had objected to the provincial and national structures of the ANC.

It was against this backdrop "that the RGC members resolved to call for the disbandment of the REC", he said.

The RGC also resolved that the regional conference should be postponed indefinitely so that objections could be dealt with by the ANC's national executive committee, said Mtshweni.

He said the registration of delegates for the regional conference would be discontinued.

"It is ANC Tshwane members' belief that the steps being taken will assist in fostering unity within the ranks of the ANC and ensure that the atmosphere leading to the regional conference will be devoid of violence, harassment and rigging."

How can people even be in a position of power when all they wish to achieve is self inrichment, if you work for the government should it not be to the benefit not detriment of the nation?

Here`s an idea.Seeing as the ANC have started early spring cleaning why not start at the top and work your way downwards? The DA is ready to take over because there will be no one left in the ANC to run the country.

Absolutely no idea how to use the smallest amount of power for the benefit of those who they are supposed to be working for. As soon as any elevation in position or priviledge is bestowed on someone it is either the cause of infighting/non-acceptance and backstabbing or the jockeying around to be sycophants to the person who can best help you up the ladder. With all these people keeping spending all their time monitoring their colleagues and plotting their next support level and what perks accompany the role, no wonder nothing is being done for the public. The ease with which many members of the ANC will revert to violence to get their way is an indictment of how little value they place on dialogue, mediation, compromise etc. To more of less of an extent this is being played out in all ANC structures around the land.

They want to run the country, but can't even run themselves!

The entire WORLD is starting to notice and OBJECT to this new ANC as being the most corrupt and disorganized RACIST organisation in existence now - and reject them entirely! Governments, Churches, NGO's and more daily.

Unfortunately this whole corruption debacle goes back further than we can imagine. When the rest of Africa was breaking its ties from the colonies and becoming independent in the 60's & 70"s that heads of states and other cronies were emptying the coffers and opening Swiss bank accounts, most of those countries were well run countries - until the "elected" were emptying the funds - just like children emptying their piggy banks. Do you honestly believe that while the ANC were "fighting" the previous government they weren't envious of their "brothers" up north who had money to burn and throw around, and yes it happened a lot - these so called heads of state flaunted their so called "wealth" so when the time came do you really think that they thought of the people first - no their own pockets were their first priority. And now you have everyone who wants a piece of the pie. No wonder there is such disorder amongst the chosen. And this goes to the very top.

Maybe the DA can take over in the interim ("indefinitely") as a practical way to keep the city running?

  • 50something - 2011-09-26 09:14

    Slowly destroying themselves - hey!!
