Johannesburg - The United Christian Democratic Party announced on Friday that president Mavis Matladi had passed away.

Deputy president Sipho Mfundisi said Matladi died in hospital on Friday morning.

She had been admitted to hospital on November 12 with breathing problems.

Matladi, 53, was elected as UCDP's leader in January after the expulsion of its founder Lucas Mangope, who governed Bophuthatswana from 1977 until 1994 when the homelands were scrapped.
