Vavi: ANC leadership will not be discussed

Johannesburg - The Congress of SA Trade Unions will not be discussing the leadership of the ANC at its 5th central committee, secretary general Zwelinzima Vavi said on Sunday.

"Cosatu has not discussed any succession or who we are going to support," he said at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.

"It’s cagey to open discussions on leadership too early."

There was still 18 months until the ANC's elective conference in 2012.

Vavi said the right time to start talking about the nominations for the leadership would be four months before the conference.

However, the central committee would be assessing the leadership.

Alliance relations were going to be discussed during the four-day central committee meeting.

Vavi said the alliance was in a "better place".

"We are coming out of a local government election where we showed unity," he said.

"We fared well [in the election] because of it."

Vavi was at Gallagher Estate on Sunday to check that everything was ready for the four-day committee meeting.

"We are ready. It's all systems go," he said.

I want to agree with Cosatu General Secretary on the succeession debate of the anc those who wants to open or who are already discusion it have ulterior motives. They need to called in order, and be reminded of the task facing the movement leading upto the comimg National conference.
