We don't appoint city managers: KZN ANC

2011-08-24 21:33
Durban - The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has distanced itself from a statement made by its youth league regarding the appointment of the eThekwini municipal manager.

"We would like to place on record that we have nothing to do with the appointment of [the] city manager. The appointment of a municipal manager is the competency of the municipality," ANC provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala said on Wednesday.

"The ANC has no intention of micro managing and interfering with any municipality," he said.

The ANC Youth League in the eThekwini region has reportedly called on the ruling party to appoint KwaZulu-Natal Premier Zweli Mkhize’s adviser Cyril Xaba as city manager.

EThekwini municipal manager Mike Sutcliffe’s contract is now renewed on a monthly basis and there have been reports that the city is looking for a new manager.
