YCLSA slams booing of Nzimande

Johannesburg - The Young Communist League of SA has
condemned the heckling of SA Communist Party general secretary Blade Nzimande
at a lecture at the Tshwane University of Technology last week.
"We view the persistent, uncomradely and foreign culture
as a form of promoting political intolerance and a means to shut down fellow
comrades from constructive engagements that can help bring about solutions for
the challenges faced by our society," the league said on Wednesday.
They named the SA Students Congress and the National Health
and Allied Workers Union as they complained that the university had not done
anything about the incident on Friday.
The league had taken responsibility for similar incidents
that it had been implicated in and would continue to do so, it said.
"The right to differ with comrades should never be
confused with irresponsible conduct. We expect the best in debates from our
future intellectuals."
They would also resist attempts to isolate Nzimande from the
ANC leadership and that of Cabinet.
They challenged people to raise and debate issues through
SACP structures.
On Monday, politician Patricia de Lille was booed at a Human
Rights Day rally at the Athlone Stadium in the Western Cape, prompting a
statement from the SA Council of Churches warning of political intolerance.
