Youth job coalition on cards
Johannesburg - A coalition dealing with unemployment amongst young people is to be established, the Young Communist League of South Africa said on Sunday.
"The coalition will...draft a 'Jobs for Youth' Charter to be unveiled during the commemoration of youth month (in) June," YCLSA secretary Buti Manamela said at a briefing held after the YCL's Jobs for Youth summit took place earlier this week.
The summit was attended by about 250 people from 84 different youth organisations and addressed by various government and trade union officials.
"The coalition will seek to lobby government, (the) private sector, finance agencies...sector education and training authorities, (the) national youth development agency, the presidency and institutions deemed to be instrumental in job creation for young people to endorse the charter."
Manamela said the coalition would attend the international Youth Employment Summit in Sweden next month, as well as other international gatherings.
