Zapiro highlights 'questionable morals'

2012-07-10 17:46

Johannesburg - Zapiro's latest cartoon may have gone too far, but so has the behaviour of some of South Africa's leaders, the Christian Democratic Party (CDP) said on Tuesday.

"The CDP would say that Zapiro has gone too far. Shockingly so," said CDP leader Theunis Botha in a statement.

"Yet, on the other hand, we have a president and many others holding public office, whose morals are, to say the least, questionable and whose influence is causing the nation to draw further away from what is morally and ethically acceptable."

The cartoon by Jonathan Shapiro depicts an erect penis with a showerhead and legs standing before a mirror with an accompanying limerick about Zuma.

Headed "The Spear to be raised at Social Cohesion Summit", the cartoon was published in the Mail & Guardian on Friday.

The CDP believed leaders should be respected but in turn, they should display the utmost integrity.

"On the other hand those involved in journalism, such as Zapiro, should fearlessly defend the truth and in the public interest expose those leaders who are corrupt and who negatively affect the moral standards of the nation by setting a bad example."

Botha said it was not possible to take sides in this matter.

"How can we even consider taking sides, when the decadent state of our nation has brought this terrible situation upon us?

"The very people who should be putting their house in order are now telling another to put his house in order.

"Apologies are threateningly being demanded of Zapiro. Yet our leaders cover up their actions and refuse to apologise."

Botha called on all parties, particularly those in leadership, to put their houses in order.

  • luvo.luvos - 2012-07-10 18:58

This is all a veiled attack of those in power by those who hate the very thought of being led by those they perceive to be of inferior value to them!

      victor.tamaranui - 2012-07-10 19:08

      hehehehhehehe

      Irene - 2012-07-10 19:08

@Luvo ~ No matter which way I look at it, Zooomer and cANCer are INFERIOR to me. Not because of their colour, but because of their behaviour. They have no morals whatsoever and are nothing but pure filthy scum. So, sorry for your but it's no perception but the truth.

      jason.sole.92 - 2012-07-10 19:15

      perceive?

      grace.andtruth.77 - 2012-07-10 19:27

Its hardly 'veiled'! Its a blatant outspoken attack on the power hungry bullies, corrupt inferior 'so-called' leaders of this country! And by the way Luvo perception has nothing to do with it!

      tw2066 - 2012-07-10 22:37

No not veiled - an open attack on those that are useless.

Love it - and here they are "questioning" your morals because you have the balls (no pun intended) to speak your mind. Let me tell all you people that are in an uproar about this painting, and the cartoon... Who is in an uproar about the textbook saga? Who is in an uproar about abandoned babies in trash cans? Who is in an uproar about the general state of affairs ( again no pun intended ) of our country? The very people that dare say anything even a little provocative, the very people whose morals are questioned, are those people. Yet they, like Zapiro are shunned by the ANC sheep because he dares to challenge our president, who should in fact be a role model.. Tell me, dancing and empty promises aside, what has he enriched this country with, other than scandal after (sexual) scandal? When talking of so called morals - tell me, what morals does our oh so loved president have? Does he care about the image he is depicting to the younger generation ( which is exactly that of the spear)? Does he care about what he may be depicting to our children? With all due respect, (which is earned I might say) our president can improve. Ten fold. And for goodness sake, please dont bring up the race issue - this has absolutely NOTHING to do with race. This is simply a man that will NOT be censored for speaking out for the people that cant, the people who think it, but dont say it. If only we could all stand together for real improvement to our beautiful country.. To the Rainbow Nation.

      belinda.west.543 - 2012-07-10 22:24

Well said!!! The rainbow nation is now getting sick and tired of the double standards, the lies, the false promises, the inability to actually perform and most of all, the blatant robbery from the country we are all working so hard to build. Regardless of skin colour we all want the same thing; a job with a livable wage, education for our children, hospitals for our sick and a roof over our head that keeps us dry... and every one of these things is absolutely possible considering how rich SA is! Eliminate the rapers, dictators and money grabbers. Expel those with zero morals who exploit!!

  • Shilly Maelane - 2012-07-10 20:05

This is all confusing... Zuma was offended at being touched (up) at Brett Murray's Studio and now Zapiro?!? Ha ha ha ha

  • phillip.andy.7 - 2012-07-10 20:07

Yip, then he became super clear! Sucks to be a retard hey?

  • thulanit3 - 2012-07-10 20:57

'it was not possible to take sides in this matter'...wow mr botha, so u would rather have a double standards...u dont know what u stand for as a christian...!

  • sidney.johnson.961 - 2012-07-10 21:00

Jacob Zoomer's spokesperson has stated that Brett Murray and Zapiro's works are making him out to be a philanderer, what does banging an HIV positive women to whom you are not married while being married to someone else make you? Jacob Zoomer is an unadulterated first class pig of a man and deserves no respect whatsoever, in a civilized country one such as he would not hold the highest office in the land for too long.

      aristar.aristary - 2012-07-13 17:39

The truth hurts doesn't it? Mr Zoomer has the morals and conscience of an alleycat. An old saying "A standing prick has no morals."

  • cordeliah.lethabo - 2012-07-10 21:09

Morals, morals hehehe morals do zapiro have morals? but i cannot blame him, if the leader is misleading his own people how can they have morals?

      aristar.aristary - 2012-07-11 09:00

Most parents teach their children about morals and the good way to live. Even three of the most basic of all commandments which are to be found in the Jewish, Christian and Muslim good books are 5 Thou shalt not kill. 6 Thou shalt not commit adultery. 7 Thou shalt not steal. And so far I see Mr Zuma as having broken all three of these commandments. So I guess which moral teachings yo are referring to when you ask about Zuma's morals.

  • deejay.aluta - 2012-07-10 23:01

And now the Anc wants to use Mandela to ease the nation because they can see that people are now tired of empty promises

  • Vince.York - 2012-07-11 05:55

When TRUTH depicted becomes more painful a spear prod than the spear itself? and they continue to prod and prod and prod on...............

  • john.dorian.1042 - 2012-07-11 06:54

    Zero morals, not just questionable!

  • badballie - 2012-07-11 09:41

The outcry from so many bodies simply confirms that people in general do not like to have their failing aired in public. Accept that the penis is not a statement about Zuma per-say, but a statement of the mentality of every single South African who through their actions or silence have allowed this country to sink to the point where a penis (spelled D.I.C.K.) could even attain the highest office in the land. Whats wrong South Africa, does the truth hurt?
