Zulu king calls for a united SA

2010-09-27 19:13

Johannesburg - The time has come for South Africans to build bridges of unity, Zulu monarch King Goodwill Zwelithini said on Monday.

"We need to build our country across racial groups and embrace our cultural and tradition norm," he said, after meeting Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane following Heritage Day celebrations in George Goch, Johannesburg.

He said he was in Gauteng to preach peace and promote culture.

"I was impressed by what I have seen in George Goch. People of different races came together to celebrate their diverse cultures. It was not only for the Zulus."

He said he had spoken to Mokonyane to renovate the George Goch stadium which would benefit the whole community and not only the Zulus.

There was a need to depoliticise culture, he said.
