Zuma denies saying he'll serve one term

2011-06-08 09:42

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has denied that he promised to serve only one term as ANC president shortly after he was elected at the party's elective conference four years ago, The New Age reported on Wednesday.

"I never said I would serve one term and I have never said that I would want two terms," he said.

"I said a second term is a decision of the ANC but people twist it now. I have never defied the ANC. If the ANC said serve one term, that will be fine. I am a cadre of the ANC."

Reports quoting senior party sources at the time of the conference held at Polokwane claimed Zuma had made a commitment to serve only one term.

  • Felix - 2011-06-08 09:45

You are meant to serve all the people of the country zoomy, not just your silly party. Grow a spine...

      Jacques - 2011-06-08 10:06

I almost thought he said he will serve only one wife????

      Mnr. Smith - 2011-06-08 10:14

@ Tshepo your IQ is as warped as your eyes.

      Derek - 2011-06-08 10:15

Nobody takes you seriously "Tshepo". For someone to troll as much as you do, you obviously have way too much time on your hands. Get a life.

      Kpt_Keyboard - 2011-06-08 10:15

Eish tshepo, comrad malema will become president when u get a brain... did u get that? hahaha

      Ephraim - 2011-06-08 10:23

felix u just wokeup and sent this comment neh? the president is nominated by the party then voted by the masses.he can be recalled at any given moment if his party isn't satisfied with his performance.osetlayela sa lekgowa.

      Derek - 2011-06-08 10:26

Ephraim, So why haven't they recalled Zuma yet then? Him and sidekick Julias are making a mockery of the ANC and everything that they are supposed to stand for.

      ck - 2011-06-08 10:31

The issue here is his position as president of the ANC, not of RSA.

      philani.goba - 2011-06-08 10:44

@CK yes I agree that then inturn means another flippin term as president of the country

      mamakalami - 2011-06-08 11:15

Constitutionally the president can serve up to two consecutive terms. There is also nothing wrong in Zuma's statement that his loyalties are with his party. Ex US president Rutherford B. Hayes was quoted: The president who serves his party best serves his country best. Read, people read! The world is leaving you way behind in your biased ignorance.

      Pencilgraffiti - 2011-06-08 11:34

@Felix - On the nail! He made an oath to serve the nation and ALL its people. An oath he never seems to uphold.

      Pencilgraffiti - 2011-06-08 11:35

Apologies - CK - You are right.

      johncarlos.biza - 2011-06-08 12:19

Mandela, 1965 Rivonia trial: ""Long walk to freedom"" Zuma, 2007 Rape trial: ""Long walk to condom" That's how low SA has stooped!

      CharlSkeptic - 2011-06-08 12:37

@mamakalami - ex US Pres who? Did he say that in an African context? One quote doesnt make the world, you know.

      Lauren - 2011-06-08 13:11

Mamma, just because some person said something, does not make it gospel. Read, people, read, indeed. Haha.

      Threelions23 - 2011-06-08 13:47

Its funny how the ANC will never answer a question just Riddle it out so it can go either way. As sad as i will feel when SA falls into another Statistical element in 10 years, I will have no sympathy for the ANC voters at all as they are where they are because they voted to be there. Africans best ally is the Afrikaner but the only way to gain respect is to earn it not force it.The same goes for us but we have made the first step for voting 70% White for Mandela...

  • DarkAngel - 2011-06-08 09:54

He'd want to serve another term - it's lekker on the gravy train.....

      Schalk - 2011-06-08 12:32

I'm still just amazed that Zuma is the best presidential candidate this country can come up with... But well, I suppose in a country where Malema can get a second term as ANCYL president one should take the hint that some "unconventional" rules apply to the selection of leaders.

      johan - 2011-06-08 13:35

  • Gorilla - 2011-06-08 09:54

Cadre, Comrade, Serve the ANC. Blah blah blah... The president serves the PEOPLE of South Africa, all this Cadre/Comrade talk is militant and liberation minded - we have come through "the struggle" now we should be behaving like normal people.

      paulf - 2011-06-08 10:07

      Double Bells for you boet!!!

      Wishbone - 2011-06-08 12:32

Exactly! Instead of serving the ANC, the president should be serving the people of the country. Currently it's a huge conflict of interests.

  • Will99 - 2011-06-08 09:55

I don't believe anything the New Age says anyway. They are a government funded paper. Let someone else report and I'll maybe believe it.

      CharlSkeptic - 2011-06-08 12:02

They will be out of business by the end of the year. Too much political interference. Their editorial staff are actually tackling serious issues such as corruption in the NCR, but they will be silenced soon

      Robert M - 2011-06-08 13:49

Funny you said that, people get that paper for free at a certain taxi rank whereas it supposed to retail for R3,50.What a waste of money

      liesl - 2011-06-09 15:02

Read New Age the other day. Nice publication, actually, of course with a bias but then all newspapers are biased. I liked the tone and approach the journalists use in writing it.

  • FRpower - 2011-06-08 09:56

Sounds like Zuma's school career he only did one term.

  • Steen - 2011-06-08 09:58

He must go, he is the worst president in the history of the ANC, Trevor Manuel for President.

      Barry - 2011-06-08 10:04

@ Steen Ai Ai I agree Manuel for President

      HaHa! - 2011-06-08 11:21

Sorry, Steen - not going to happen... Trevor Manuel has an education, a brain and some morals.. so he is not dumb enough, incompetent enough, corrupt enough and greedy enough. They need one of their own kind to drive the gravy train all the way to destruction!

      Wayne - 2011-06-08 11:44

This is probably the best comment that you have ever made!

      Thuthuka Gumbi - 2011-06-08 12:30

@HaHa, don't be ignorant. If you want to sound smart, at least back your comments up with something credible. Through the history of the ANC, and its 13 presidents, it has produced 4 presidents who were medical doctors, 2 law degree holders, a masters of economics, and some BA's, all achieved under massive adversity. Trevor Manual himself, an educated man is a member of the ANC, and the education level the man you love so much has attained pales in comparison to a lot of his counter parts in government. Scrap that notion of uneducated people in government based on the 2 idiots running things right now. You will end up looking as uneducated as you seem to want to believe the ANC is.

      Steen - 2011-06-08 12:38

@Thuthuka Gumbi well said @Wayne it only shows the level of your thinking let alone your educational background, comment on the subject rather than posting a lame comment.

      steve hall - 2011-06-08 13:07

Thuthuka, we really must stop meeting likes this. We all agree that the ANC has had some GREAT LEADERS before (A VERY VERY VERY LONG TIME AGO), however the current crop is not really up to par with my intelligence level. Showering after sex will prevent AIDS (REALLY!); If the woman ask for taxi money it is not rape (REALLY!); If you don't vote for the ANC the ancestors will be angry (REALLY!) Calling the leader of the opposition a whore is not very sofisticated either........ OOPS I just saw that I misread your comment, but I worked so hard on this response that I now have to post it anyway - Apologies in advance in case you feel offended (How's the rain in JB? The rainqueen hasn't been able to stop it yet?)

      Thuthuka Gumbi - 2011-06-08 13:18

@ Steve Hall, hahahah, no worries budd. Look at this Haha character's comment, and how many people like it. See how easy it is to follow (hmmmm, dont like calling people names but,) a fool. This is what concerns me about personalities on these fora. Shows you the percentage of people who swear they are educated and know what's best for this country on this forum have a pretty shallow pool of sense.

      mamakalami - 2011-06-08 13:28

Thuthuka my brother you are wasting your time trying to educate this lot. This blog is made up of ANC opponents,Zuma bashers and black haters. No intelligence required to blog here - if you hate the ANC, Zuma or blacks all thumbs will go up. No tangible debate or exchange of information goes on here - these are DA supporters.

      Dylan Swanepoel - 2011-06-09 13:23

Media twists all these stories and everyone gets suckered into them, I am not defending Zuma but our media has been known to turn stories upside down in the past, and besides he is still our president and when you lose faith in your president failure is inevitable!

  • paulf - 2011-06-08 09:59

You will only serve 1 term Zuma, you are useless and Malema is going to see to it. Malema wants Mkeki back by the sounds of things. You will be doing jail time with your other cronies after your term.

      onetickie - 2011-06-08 10:13

      malema is a phychopathatic schizophrenic.

      Heks - 2011-06-08 10:17

      Uwe Klopfer - 2011-06-08 11:07

@onetickle...i disagree, juliASS can't that, to be what you described would require a brain. JuliASS doesn't qualify

      Pipehitter - 2011-06-08 11:38

@nixcroft....don't use "juliASS" why not MaleNa? According to Wikipedia a malena is "black tarry stool due to bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract" which I recon is much more appropriate :-)

      mamakalami - 2011-06-08 13:39

onetickie - did you guys share the same ward or you've passed each other when they let you out for daily walks?

      DW - 2011-06-10 08:29

Mbeki wouldnt be such a bad choice if he didnt go and stuff up the AIDS situation again. Yesterday I saw a report that the mother to child infections are rock bottom. This would not have happened on Mbeki's watch. Other than that, he was a far better president than Zuma could ever hope to be.

  • Trevor - 2011-06-08 10:00

Funny...I'm sure I remember this question coming up BEFORE he would become President just after his Rape trial was "squashed"....and corruption charges/allegations..."squashed" clear the path for a President Zuma that would free Shabir Shaik his "friend"...oh how we forget....the question was raised, would he become just another Bob??

      jds - 2011-06-08 11:57

@Ephraim-Please elaborate on the your comment...the remarks made by the people is not that of white racists, but by educated(mostly) people who read the news and makes his/her statement based on facts. It's all about the facts and the true understanding of where the current leaders of the ANC is taking this country. Why is it racist if people state their disgust toward the current leaders if the FACTS are as clear as daylight? I have seen black people also critising and writing on this page about the corruption, lack of responsibility etc. Does this also make them racist? I have to agree that some of the comments are a bit unnecessary though.

      Charlie - 2011-06-08 12:15

@jds These days if you point out corruption, lying, maladministration and lack of responsibility in the anc it is known as racism!!!

      Wishbone - 2011-06-08 12:35

@Ephraim. Waving the racist card again? It seems that this card is simply waved at logical argument because the ANC's ideology is illogical and self serving.

Continue to follow blindly, pray to your ancestors who have probably turned their backs on the lot of you.

      Thuthuka Gumbi - 2011-06-08 13:06

Hi Jannie/onetickie, I know a lot of afrikaans people who cannot make that distinction either. I just figure it's not their 1st language before hurling insults of lack of braincells. Shouldn't you, with your abundance of brain matter, have better ways to state your case. Let him vote how he wants, you vote how you want. Jannie, FYI, "Fortunately" applies from I_Says perspective. Nothing wrong there. With that said, I hope he doesn't run for a second term in office.

Zuma, bless him, is not fit to serve as president now and in the future. He is essentially useless. The Gupta family have to prop the poor guy up. It's ridiculous. If Malema thinks he is useless then there should be no doubt in anyone's mind that Zuma is useless. Even Fikile Mbalula was reported on Wikileaks to have said he and many were dismayed that "the Rapist" became president of the republic.

04 June 2009 COSATU general secretary says a one term presidency is no longer on the table JOHANNESBURG (Sapa) - President Jacob Zuma has promised the Congress of SA Trade Unions he will serve two terms in office, its general secretary said on Thursday. "We know the president said only one term, but we have engaged with him," Zwelinzima Vavi told reporters in Johannesburg. "It is no longer on the table. He will run two full terms."

      Juliarse - 2011-06-08 12:08

Hey Jakob Kakob... remember back to July 2009 when you said " I would prefer to leave after one term. Even if it is not one term, I think in the second term I should be able to begin the process of winding down. I would allow open debate, not make people guess what is going to happen in terms of succession. "This would allow the organisation to indicate what it wants. But if it was me deciding, if the ANC had made me president of the country (I would prefer one term)." You lying son of a .....

  • Nick - 2011-06-08 11:27

Not only is he an idiot pretending to be a president, he is also a liar, and a very bad one at that.

  • ESTIE - 2011-06-08 11:30

I'll vote for you Mr Presisdent you diserve it.Will forget about the minorities. They can call us names we don't care but the main thing is as clever as they are they will remain under the ruling party. I wonder who do they want for 2nd term or they want Madam? is that possible? or she will be on the voting list at Polokwane, I don't think so. ANC decide who will be the president not DA. Their (DA) opinion on this one does not count at all.

Comrade Zuma, We honour you as the leader and as the President of the country. I will appreciate to find about the direction you intend direct this country to.(Dual Explaination from you and your Party's Corruption Gients) One is frastrated by Governance Model of the ANC, to others it slow reduce while to others has completely deminished the confindence they had about the capacity, Integrity, reliaence, persevere, ability & williness to cater for masses on the grass root, "Where is that Spirit and Commitment to Self Sacrifise????". Cadres ( Corruption - Service delivery vs Ecomonic Development and Growth Strategies - Unemployment / Skills Shortages)/ Favouratism and Corrupt Bearers Im not Methamethical Litarate, but I have analytical skill , please assist in solving the above equation as inventors of the new Systems
