Johannesburg - The African National Congress will host a summit with its alliance partners and various civil society organisations this weekend, the party announced on Friday.
Spokesperson Jessie Duarte said ANC President Jacob Zuma would deliver a keynote address at the summit, to be held in Esselen Park in Kempton Park.
Over 300 delegates, including members of the Congress of SA Trade Unions, the SA Communist Party as well as women's, youth and religious groups were expected to attend. Commissions would be formed to discuss matters like economic development and poverty, unemployment, health, education and crime.
Duarte said the summit followed decisions taken during the ANC's 52nd national conference in December 2007 that the ANC needed to engage more actively with all sectors of society.
The summit would be closed to the media but a briefing would be held on Sunday afternoon.
