Technology Tips:
- iPhone background apps
To close apps running in the background of your iPhone, double click the home button, and long press any one of the recent apps displayed. A red marker will appear and you can close these apps. This tip is also useful sometimes if a particular app has been crashing on open.
- Mobile internet
If you're having trouble with accessing the web on your Windows Phone device on Vodacom, locate the APN menu in Settings, and in name, insert iphone.vodacom.za.
- Security
Make sure you have complex passwords for your devices and change them often for added protection from hackers.
- Hardware
If you're spending several hours as a keyboard jockey, you might feel the traditional mouse becomes a bit tiresome. Replace your old school mouse and keyboard with all-in-one keyboard and touch pad mouse. Get the wireless one as a bonus.
- Smartphones
If your smartphone is running low on battery power quickly, it might be apps running in the background that are to blame. Download a task killer app (there are a few for multiple platforms) and it will help you keep an eye on misbehaving apps.
- Data
Download the My Data Manger app to keep track on the data that your Android device is using. It measures data use per month, week or day and separates it into mobile wireless, Wi-Fi and roaming categories.
- Power
Why buy batteries for your digital devices every time they go flat? One set of rechargeable batteries lasts for a long time and they usually come with a charger in a pack.
- Online
If you keep losing your flash drives, why not create a Dropbox account online. You get a free 2GB of storage and you can access your documents anywhere you have an internet connection.
- Mobile
If you have the problem of your Android apps updating over the mobile network, here are a couple of things you can do to limit it. In your setting menu, you can disable data over the mobile network or you can use the Data Saver on some smartphones to limit the amount of data used.
You can also open Play Store and hit the menu button on your device. In Settings, check the Update over Wi-Fi only button.
