Cape Town - As BlackBerry prepares to expand the BlackBerry 10 platform with the release of the Q10, the company is racing to update applications on the BlackBerry World storefront.

"Updated versions of Twitter and LinkedIn for BlackBerry 10 smartphones are now available for download on the BlackBerry World storefront," the company announced on Friday.

The Q10 follows the release of the touch only Z10 in SA and the device features a physical keyboard which has been a staple of BlackBerry devices.

Much of the criticism of the devices that represent a new direction for the Canadian-based company is centred on the apps for the BlackBerry 10 platform.

The company launch the platform with 70 000 apps, and has moved to ensure that it expands the ecosystem and attracts users.

Enhancements

On Wednesday, the company announced that the transition to BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 for companies has been facilitated by an agreement with Global Enterprise Mobility Alliance (Gema).

"Under this agreement, Gema will provide the BlackBerry Change Management and Planning with Remote Installation Service to customers who need assistance in planning and executing the transition to BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, as well as introducing BlackBerry 10 devices," the company said.

Some of the enhancements of the Twitter app include universal search and automatic caching.

Many users have struggled to adjust to the fact that the latest BlackBerry devices not supporting the unlimited BlackBerry Internet Service, but in a Nes24 test, the devices were not as data hungry as comparable smartphones.

Vodacom offers the LTE BlackBerry Q10 for R429 per month, but the device may face the biggest challenge from the Z10 touch screen device.
