Barcelona - How technologically advanced can in-car entertainment get? It's a questions that Audi hopes to answer with the new A3.

The car was showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Spain recently and featured Audi's in-car infotainment system that allows an owner to check news, weather, map routes as well as play some tracks.

The €40 000 cabriolet is designed to provide a fully functional smartphone-integrated system that some have criticised as too distracting to the driver.

Some have expressed fears that cars with next generation mobile technology could be hacked by criminals who may, if security does not advance fast enough, be able to take command of car controls.

The incident in 2011 when Iran brought down a US drone is often cited as cited as evidence that wireless technologies are more susceptible to attacks.

However, despite the critics, it appears that more technology will make its way into cars as manufacturers vie for the "next big thing".

Qualcomm debuted a fully kitted Mercedes that employs a range of technologies including multiple cameras to aide driving and parking.

Yet other manufacturers are going a step further and working on driverless cars, even though the legislative framework is problematic for the deployment of these vehicles.
