Cape Town – The Optimus G smartphone is LG's flagship smartphone.

The main camera is 13 megapixel and the secondary camera is 1.3 megapixel. The phone also has 32GB of storage memory and weighs 145g.

The Optimus G makes use of a micro-sim, and it has Stereo FM radio.

It has a battery endurance of 45 hours and is available in black and white.

With a screen which is 12cm big the display is a little bit bigger than the Blackberry Z10 which has a display of 10.6cm. The Blackberry is also much lighter than the Optimus G as it only weighs 137.5g.

Some people criticised the Optimus G as too big to be practical for a phone. But when I held the device for the first time it fitted quite nicely into my hand. You will have to use both your hands on the phone. But I didn't have a problem holding it with one hand and using my other hand to operate the phone.

But the phone did however get a bit heavy after I held it for a while.

What I liked about the phone is that it is really fast and you don't have to wait for your applications to open. The quality of the pictures were great with rich colours and it felt like I was watching videos on a small big screen television as the quality of the videos was also spot on.

Another awesome feature of the Optimus G was that you can select a button to keep the screen on when the device detects your eyes looking at the screen. This way the screen doesn't go into time-out mode after a while.

Then there's also the Safety Care App that is very useful in emergencies. It lets people you selected know about your emergency situation. The Quick Translator App is another great feature of the Optimus G as it translates words or sentences from any language to another language you are familiar with.

The Optimus G was released in South Africa in May 2013 and costs R6 999.

LG announced earlier that the price of the Optimus G Pro, which is expected to be available in September 2013, will be R7 999.
