Golden Gate Half Marathon

Situated just outside Clarens is the beautiful Golden Gate National Park; home to beautiful rock formations and even more beautiful sunsets! If you fancy booking a weekend away and taking part in a half marathon at the same time then entering the Golden Gate Half Marathon might be the one for you.

Grahamstown Flower Festival
When: Saturday, 6 and Sunday, 7 October 2012
Where: Makana Botanical Gardens, Grahamstown
Entry fee: R20 - Adults, R10 - Students, R10 - Scholars
The Grahamstown Flower Festival takes place in the second oldest botanical gardens in the country, which have been successfully redeveloped and upgraded over the past three years.
The Makana Botanical Gardens are located below the 1820 Settlers' Monument, home of the National Arts Festival.
The gardens will be taken over in their entirety by the Festival organisers for the weekend of the event - from 2pm on Friday 5th to 4pm on Sunday 7th October. Access to the festival grounds will be via the Lucas Avenue gate situated above Rhodes University's Eden Grove building.

Shnit! Film festival

Dim the lights, grab your popcorn and sit back and relax because the shnit! International Short Film Festival hits Cape Town this month.
Come and be a part of one of the fastest growing festivals in Europe. Short Film is a fantastic medium and with over 3500 entries from 109 countries you can be sure you will some spectacular stuff.
You will see some cutting edge and off the wall work, as well as the best South African short film makers have to offer. There are also late night panel discussions to take part in as well as a part at the Grand Daddy Hotel.

Rocking the Daisies

Poetry Africa Festival
When: Monday, 15 - Saturday, 20 October 2012
Where: Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, Durban
The popularity of the spoken word is evident in the powerful performance arc that threads through the 16th edition of Poetry Africa. Music is also a prominent presence in this landmark festival organised by the Centre for Creative Arts (University of KwaZulu-Natal) and made possible through principal funding from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund. Poetry Africa runs in Durban from 15 to 19 October at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, with the festival finale at BAT Centre on 20 October. Satellite events take place in Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Cape Town before culminating at the main event in Durban.

Oriental Dance festival

Waterblommetjie festival

Where: Windmeul Cellar and Rhebokskloof Estate in Agter - Paarl

South Africa's distinctive vegetable will again be celebrated on 6 October, at the fourth annual Waterblommetjie Festival which is presented jointly in Agter-Paarl by Windmeul Cellar and Rhebokskloof Estate. This is a unique opportunity for food and wine lovers because it is the only waterblommetjie culinary festival of its kind in the country. Waterblommetjies dishes predate the arrival of the first Europeans in 1652.
Live music, entertainment for children, horse rides, quad bike and a hiking trail all form part of the festival.

Sandton Bierfest

Closely resembling the Oktoberfest in Munich, The Bierfest in Sandton promises to be an authentic Bavarian festival complete with limited edition beers brewed exclusively for the event, German food and even Oompah bands!

Gay and Lesbian Film Festival - Out in Africa
