Cape Town - British Airways has been in the process of installing a new first class product throughout much of their long haul fleet - but certain aircraft still feature the old first class product - leaving the airline in a bit of a quandary.
According to Boarding, flying the old first class does mean you are issued with 50 000 Avios as compensation, calling it a potential refund of more than half the Avios required for the flight.

The report states BA will stop selling first class on routes scheduled to be operated by 747-400s featuring the old first class product and has already stopped selling first class for travel on the following flights, effective as of October 26, 2014:

- Cape Town/CPT BA42/43

-Las Vegas/LAS BA274/275

- Phoenix/PHX BA288/289

- Vancouver/YVR BA84/85

British Airways told News24 Travel, "As part of our investment in new fleet, we are retiring a number of our 747-400s. Currently, a very small number in operation carry the old First cabin, which will be withdrawn next year.

"We understand that this may not be the experience our customers expect and have taken the decision to offer these First seats at Club World prices on selected routes."
