Mango ups Zanzibar flight frequency

2013-12-02 12:06
Cape Town - Mango has added two weekly flights on their Zanzibar route during December, to cater for the high demand over the school holidays.

The airline launched its flights into Zanzibar during September this year, currently running two permanent frequencies into the east African island destination. The two new frequencies, which also take off on Tuesdays and Saturdays, are a seasonal addition, which are expected to cease at the end of December.

The low cost airline currently carries just under 10% of all traffic to the east African island destination.  Apart from the Zanzibar route, Mango has also launched flights into Port Elizabeth from Johannesburg and Cape Town, as well as three weekly flights between Johannesburg and George over the past year.

Mango CEO Nico Bezuidenhout said that he expects year-end holiday bookings to show positive growth against 2012 numbers. While the upswing is not expected to be record-breaking, Bezuidenhout is confident that year on year growth of between 7 and 12% will be achieved across the airline’s network.

“Forward bookings have performed strongly with many flights over the season sold out,” says Bezuidenhout.

He added that innovation continues to lie at the core of Mango. “The majority of our fleet is equipped with in-flight Wi-Fi (6 out of 8 Boeing 737-80’s) with usage on an upward curve. Our mobile apps have also shown positive uptake since launching earlier this year with just over 14 000 bookings made on the go last month.”
