SAA does inauguration fly-by

The presidential inauguration took place at the Union Buildings in Pretoria - and South African Airways commemorated the event by doing a fly-by with one of its Airbus A340-600 aircraft.

Johannesburg -  Two Airbus A320s are being completed in France and will be delivered to SA Airways (SAA) in the next few weeks, Airbus Sub-Sahara Africa said on Tuesday.

"Our reliable, fuel-efficient, and comfortable A320s give SAA a competitive edge and help it achieve sustainable profitability," Airbus vice president for Africa and Indian Ocean sales Hadi Akoum said in a statement.

"SAA has long been regarded as a bellwether for Africa on aircraft selection and we are looking forward to expanding our relationship."

According to the company, the aircraft are the latest in an order of 20 of the twin-engined jetliners by SAA and were being customised to the airline's specifications.

SAA started receiving its new A320s from Airbus last year.

Four have been delivered so far.

SAA chief executive officer Monwabisi Kalawe said the airline looked forward to receiving the two aircraft.

"Operating a modern and fuel-efficient fleet plays a significant role in cost reduction and boosting revenue," he said.

"The A320 will assist SAA to achieve this while providing our passengers with a more superior cabin product."
