Top 5 restaurants to try this festive season

2013-11-11 14:25

If indulging in some fine dining is on your festive season to-do list, we suggest you try out these five restaurants that came out tops in 2013 Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards

The winners were announced on Sunday and only two of the top ten were not in the Western Cape.

However, if your holiday plans aren't taking you to Stellenbosch or Cape Town, don't stress, as both the KZN and Joburg restaurant that made it onto the list feature in the top 5.

So, here you go:

The Test Kitchen, Woodstock, Cape Town

Last year crowned as Best Restaurant of the Year, this year The Test Kitchen held on to this highly acclaimed title.

Earlier this year, The Test Kitchen was not only awarded 61st place in the World's Best Restaurant Awards but it was given the Cacao Barry "One To Watch Award" there too. Chef Luke Dale-Roberts most certainly is one to watch.

Five Hundred at The Saxon, Sandhurst, Johannesburg

Five hundred is the Saxon Hotel's signature Restaurant, based on the intriguing concept of food, wine and art. The chefs interact with guests and serve a unique gallery of artistic cuisine and wine pairings.

Rust en Vrede, Annandale Road, Stellenbosch

The Rust en Vrede estate has stood peacefully among the Stellenbosch vineyards for more than 315 years and is famous for its excellent selection of read wines.

The restaurant is located in the original cellar, which is also a National Monument. Placed "front and centre" on the estate, it creates an ambiance that is relaxed but vibey.

The Greenhouse, Constantia, Cape Town

Greenhouse's cuisine playfully combines international techniques and styles with local ingredients and flavours, resulting in dishes that surprise and leave a lasting impression. The 3 tasting menus and à la carte menu, expertly paired with superb wines from the surrounding wine region, will impress even the most seasoned of diners.

Hartford House, Mooi River, KwaZulu-Natal

This is a passionate place, and any meal at Hartford House reflects their obsession with culinary perfection. There is little value in living in one of the world's most bounteous environs without taking advantage of all that it offers. In season, and local, is key!
