South Africa and Kenya have once again proved themselves to be the top tourist destinations on the continent, as both countries raked in numerous accolades at the World Travel Awards - Africa. Here's a look at the destinations nominated as the World's leading beach destinations.

Boracay, Philippines - World Travel Award as well as Tripadvisor Traveller's choice award
Boracay is small enough to navigate by rented bicycle or motorbike, but don't let its small size fool you. There are beaches aplenty to keep you happy.

According to Tripadvisor, Yapak Beach is known for beautiful white shells; White Beach has picture-perfect sunsets; and Balinghai Beach is a secluded spot, perfect for honeymooners.

Best to visit during the dry season from October to May for the perfect beach holiday.

Zanzibar, Tanzania - World Travel Award

From white beaches and turquoise waters to spice markets and carved doors. Zanzibar is a photographer's dream. With its many treasure troves, a trip to Zanzibar is not complete without a visit to Stone Town.

Cancun, Mexico - World Travel Award as well as Tripadvisor Traveller's choice award
Experience the tropical Yucatan climate, explore Mayan ruins such as El Rey and the Yamil Lu’um, a crumbling tower of pale gray stone and learn about more about this ancient civilization. Of course for a taste of Mexico you must take a tour of the Museo Sensorial del Tequila.

The Algarve's sunny shores offer perfect escapes for all types, from those seeking the hot nightlife of flashy, energetic Lagos to those desiring secluded stays in rambling Sagres. Portugal's most southerly region offers historical attractions in former Moorish capital Silves and fascinating Tavira, great golf, fabulous beaches from Praia da Luz to Armacao de Pera, thermal springs at Caldas de Monchique, and miles of limestone caves and grottoes, cliffs and bays along its rugged coastline.

Grace Beach, Caribbean - World Travel Award
