Jay-z and Solange's spectacular blow-out, showing the rap singer being attacked by his sister-in-law in the lift at a New York boutique hotel has caused quite stir.

The Standard Hotel, which also has locations in Los Angeles and Miami Beach, Florida and was recently featured in one of Beyonce’s music video’s is said to be investigating the breach in “guest privacy”.

1. The Bowery Hotel in New York was set alight, literally, after Florence Welch went out drinking with Kanye West. Welch set fire to her room when she left a candle burning overnight. The singer reportedly woke up to a blackened room, a chipped tooth and no memory of what had happened.

2. Also infamous for letting it all hang out at The Bowery is Lindsay Lohan. She was kicked out of the hotel for throwing a room-service tray at what she thought was then girlfriend Samantha Ronson’s suite door. Turns out it was the wrong door. But surely that’s not as bad as Lohan skipping out on a $46 000 bill at the Chateau Marmont?

3. Disgraced politician Dominique Strauss-Kahnv allegedly assaulted a maid in his $3 000-a-night suite on the 28th floor of the Saofitel, which resulted in him being accused of links to a number of prostitution rings. Strauss Kahnv was later charged for "aggravated pimping" in a French court.

4. In 1972, Keith Richards tossed a TV from the tenth-floor balcony of Room 1015 at the Continental Hyatt House (now the Andaz) in West Hollywood. It resulted in dozens of copycat crimes. Fourteen years later, Axl Rose tossed barbecued steaks from his balcony at the same hotel. TVs at the hotel have since been bolted down for obvious reasons.

5. The Mark in New York makes the celebrity hotel blow-out list for an incident which happened in 1994. Johnny Depp reportedly trashed his $1,200-per-night suite after an argument with then girlfriend Kate Moss. Damages to the room were said to be about $10 000.

6. Amy Winehouse will not only be remembered for her musical, rhythm and blues prowess but also for her oddball behaviour at resorts like LeSport in St Lucia, where she reportedly danced topless on the balcony.

7. Who can forget Paris Hilton’s arrest at Wynn in Las Vegas after she dropped a bag of cocaine in front of a cop? *snort*

8.  And what about that time the late king of pop, Michael Jackson dangled his infant son, Blanket, from Hotel Adlon's window in Berlin back in 2002?

9. And finally, Charlie Sheen could not be seen to be winning unless there was a porn star or two involved in his incident. Turns out he was naked and in a drug-induced rage when he trashed his Plaza hotel suite to the tune of $7 000. All this while a porn star hid in the bathroom and his daughters were sleeping in adjacent suites.
