Beijing is set to allow travellers a 72-hour visa-free stay while in transit through China's capital city,Wanderlust reports.
The policy has been approved and The China National Tourism Office says more information will become available in the following weeks.
Recent reports into the increase of travellers taking advantage of the 48-hour visa-free stay currently in place in Shanghai are believed to have spurred the decision.
It is anticipated that Beijing's stipulations will emulate Shanghai's and admit travellers from 32 countries worldwide including the US, UK, Japan, Singapore, Germany, France, Hungary and Switzerland. The CNTO has added that the visa-free policy will also be extended to some railways and ports next year.
Beijing is a stopover option for long-haul flights that pass through Asia and there is plenty that you can see and experience in 72 hours or less. Jingshan Park is an adventurous bicycle ride away and offers unparalleled views of the city. Alternatively, you can hop on the metro for a cheap trip to the Old Summer Palace.
