China plagued by SA visa problems

Shanghai - The South African embassies in Shanghai and Beijing have run out of visa stickers and have been unable to issue any South African visas to Chinese travellers for a week, Tourism Updatereports.

They faced the same issue in November last year.

The series of problems in the last few months has left Chinese tour operators extremely frustrated and threatening to move their business to competitor destinations that offer more streamlined visa procedures.

The National Department of Tourism's Chief Director of Communications, Trevor Bloem, said the department was aware of the situation and had been in touch with Home Affairs on the matter.

In the mean time South African inbound tour operators specialising in the Chinese market who were contacted by Tourism Update were not aware of the situation, and said none of their passengers had been affected as yet.
