Fishing tourist killed by shark in Hawaii

2013-12-04 08:40
San Francisco - A man fishing from a kayak off the coast of Hawaii has been killed in a shark attack, the Honolulu Advertiser reported Tuesday.

The victim was named as Patrick Briney, a tourist from Washington state who was fishing off the coast of the island of Maui with a friend when the incident occurred Monday afternoon.

According to the report, the shark bit off Briney's leg which was dangling over the edge of his kayak, and he died from severe bleeding.

It was the second fatal shark attack in Hawaii this year after a German tourist died when a shark bit off her arm while she was snorkeling off the Maui coast in August.

Prior to that incident, the previous fatal shark attack in Hawaii occurred in 2004.
