Hajj pilgrims to save with new Saudi Riyal card

2013-09-26 13:27
South Africa Muslims going on the Hajj for their annual pilgrimage to Mecca, may want to check out the newly introduced World Currency Card by Bidvest Bank - provider of the world's largest travel card range.

Pilgrims who converts Rands into US dollars or Euro are usually faced with a second currency conversion on arrival in Saudi Arabia. The new Riyal card saves travellers currency conversion costs as users convert Rands directly into the destination currency.

Neil Capazorio, head of Bidvest Bank's card division said, "We believe the card will become a regular feature of travel planning whenever South African Muslims leave for Mecca, either specifically for the Hajj or for the purposes of Umrah, the pilgrimage to Mecca that may be undertaken at any time of year."

Other advantages include:
- Conversion rate certainty as the card is loaded with destination currency prior to departure
- Peace of mind - sms/email notification ensures you know your available balance
- No more 'statement shock' - a potential problem for credit card users who might get a surprisingly high credit card bill a couple of weeks after coming home
- Cost effectiveness - when using the card you transact at a fixed exchange rate without a point-of-sale or merchant transaction fee
- Convenience - card activation is immediate and users can withdraw cash at over two million Visa-accredited ATMs worldwide
- Added security - via PIN and signature validation
- Top-up convenience - the card is re-loadable at any time
- Rapid back-up - if a card is lost, 24-hour support ensures speedy replacement
- Voyager Miles - miles are earned on the amount loaded onto the card regardless of the amount spent.

Neil Capazorio noted: "Another benefit was recently added when our World Currency Card(tm) became South Africa's first pre-paid foreign currency card to offer Visa Platinum privileges.

"Platinum benefits include purchase protection. This means you are paid back in full for loss, damage or theft of items bought with your World Currency Card. Extended warranty is another benefit. The usual warranty given on the goods you buy will be extended to a maximum of 24 months, just because you bought the items with your World Currency Card."

There are 18 currencies in Bidvest Bank's suite of travel cards. In addition to the Riyal, the other currencies are: the US, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand Dollar, British Pound, Euro, Chinese Yuan, Japanese Yen, Indian and Mauritian Rupee, Swiss Franc, UAE Dirham, Israeli Shekel, Brazilian Real, Argentine Peso, Thai Baht and the Rand.

The date of this year's Hajj is expected to fall between October 13 and 18, depending on moon sightings.
