Malaysia Airlines deletes tweet sent shortly before MH17 went down

Cape Town – Just a few hours before Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was shot down on the border of Russia and Ukraine, killing all 289 people on board, the carrier sent out an innocent tweet that suddenly turned grim.

Gawker reports that Malaysia Airlines tweeted a photograph of their teddy bear mascot with the caption: “Fasten your seatbelt, Pilot Parker is ready for his next adventure” about 12 hours before the tragedy.  

So, for a short while on Thursday, news about the plane bumped up against a photo of an adorable teddy bear.

As the tragic news started spreading, Twitter users picked up on the unfortunate juxtaposition. The airline removed the tweet soon after.
