No matter how delightful the prospect of an overseas vacation is, the bit in transit is never fun. Uncomfortable seats, bright lights and loud people make nodding off close to impossible.

Well, not anymore, as the prospect of a new portable device called the Ostrich Pillow could make even the most cramped economy seat or well-lit layover airport comfortable enough for a power nap.

The Telegraph reports that the distinctive-looking pillow has a hole in which to put your head, and a mouth hole designed to allow its wearer to breath easily. It also has two side holes where you can store your hands – if napping at a table in a library, for example. With its synthetic stuffing, the cushion is plush enough for a comfy nap, but appropriately light for travel.

The concept was developed by Kawamura-Ganjavian, an architecture and design studio with offices in Madrid and Lausanne and has been described as a “a giant garden squash gone soft” by technology website CNET. The Ostrich Pillow will go into production if its fundraising targets are met.

The company is currently trying to collect $70,000 (£43,000) on Kickstarter, a funding website for creative business ideas. The tally of pledges so far is slightly more than $35,000 (£21,500) with 23 days remaining.

The question, however is, would you put comfort before being cool?
