Whether you're taking a road trip with family, friends, or a partner, choosing music to suit everyone's taste and mood can be rather impossible.
However, if getting to your destination safely is your priority (as it should be), you may want to pay attention to the findings of a new study regarding which songs encourage safe driving.
Business Insider reports that the study, conducted by London Metropolitan University, found that the optimum tempo of songs for safe driving is 60 to 80 beats per minute, which correlates strongly with the human heartbeat.
On the contrary, they found that noisy, fast music has an adverse effect on drivers, pushing up the heart rate and encouraging them to speed up to match the beat.
Furthermore, the study revealed that females tend to drive more aggressively while listening to hip-hop, while heavy metal caused the fastest driving among males.
Interestingly, classical music caused the most erratic driving.
So, next time you're creating a road trip playlist, cut down on Mozart, Eminem and Metallica and work these ten safe-driving songs in instead:
1. Come Away With Me - Norah Jones
2. Billionaire Feat. Bruno Mars - Travie McCoy
3. I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
4. The Scientist - Coldplay
5. Tiny Dancer - Elton John
6. Cry Me a River - Justin Timberlake
7. I Don't Want to Miss a Thing - Aerosmith
8. Karma Police - Radiohead
9. Never Had a Dream Come True - S Club 7
