Terrible tourism taglines

Trying to attract tourists is a hard job and sometimes creativity runs dry. Take a look at these terrible taglines dreamed up by tourism bodies.

Wellington - A new logo for New Zealand's picturesque Kapiti region has come under fire for being a little too lewd for the district council's liking.

Huh? A logo lewd? But how?

Well, according to CNN Travel, the local firm Eden Design decided to stylise the letter ‘k' above the Kapiti, with a raised and rounded top stroke, meant to represent the large offshore island that gives the region its name.

However, instead of cheers, the logo drew jeers from the Kapiti Coast District Council when it was unveiled last week. One official likened it to the Loch Ness monster, while another said that the pornographic overtones couldn't be ignored.

"I have had feedback from the public that this ‘k' image, with its bent leg, at the knee, is more than mildly pornographic," said Otaki Community Board member Jackie Elliott. "Perhaps the caption underneath could be, ‘Come to Kapiti and let the earth move for you."

Local officials seemed mildly embarrassed by the unexpected attention and eager to downplay the controversy.

"It's really a storm in a teapot as far as we're concerned," a local official who asked not to be named told CNN. "We've turned it upside-down and sideways and every which way and none of us here for the life of us could find anything wrong."
