Massive whale hangs out with surfers in Australia

Surfers off a Sydney beach came extremely close to what may have been a pregnant southern right whale, paddling close to the animal. What a magical experience!WATCH

Sydney - Surfers off the Sydney coastline came extremely close to what may have been a pregnant southern right whale, paddling close to the animal as it splashed around in the water.
Euronews reports via their YouTube page that a helicopter's camera caught footage of the encounter, showing the surfers just metres away from the giant mammal.

While it makes for a pretty magical picture, it has caused some controversy, as there are very strict rules about the distance humans are to keep from these ocean behemoths.

New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service apparently expressed its unease with the close proximity of the surfers, stating that there should at all times be more than 100 metres between humans and whales.

What are your thoughts - magical moment in the ocean or irresponsible behaviour on the surfer's part?
