Tourists capture armed robbery on camera

2014-04-23 11:24

A couple who were travelling through Guatemala by motorbike were robbed at gunpoint and managed to capture the whole ordeal on camera. Take a look. WATCH

Guatemala City - Getting mugged at gunpoint while riding along a dirt road in Guatemala is not an item on anyone's bucket list... and neither is capturing the entire ordeal on camera.

However, this is exactly what happened to Dan Lands, a 34-year-old Canadian traveller and his girlfriend earlier this month.

The Telegraph reports that the couple were ambushed while riding a bike along a dirt track between Santiago Atitlan and San Pedro La Laguna in Solola, when two gunmen wearing balaclavas ambushed them.

By chance, they had been filming their journey on a head-on cam and managed to capture the entire ordeal.

Lands posted the video on YouTube, saying that they hope it will "serve as a warning to other travelers about taking this road."

He added that the don't want to put people off from visiting San Pedro La Laguna or Guatemala in general as it's a beautiful place with generally warm and kind inhabitants.

"We have felt safe for the majority of our trip," he stated.
