London is the most expensive destination to spend New Year’s Eve, according to a new survey from French travel website AlloVoyages.fr. The survey compared 30 top destinations in Europe on the basis of their hotel rates for the overnight of 31 December 2013.

ETN reports European establishments are increasing their rates by as much as 187% for the year-end holiday period.

In London, New Year’s Eve revelers will currently have to spend 353 Euros (about R5030 at R14,53/€), and that’s for the most affordable double room. According to the survey, at the present moment about 15% of European hotels are still offering rooms in Central London.

Second and third most expensive are Edinburgh and Amsterdam, where the most affordable double room will cost celebrators 347 Euros and 301 Euros, respectively. The French capital of Paris ranks eighth most expensive at 189 Euros.

The survey further found that the biggest New Year’s rate hikes are occurring in Prague. While would-be guests will be able to find the most affordable double room for a seeming bargain at 194 Euros, the percentage rate hike tells a different story. In the Czech capital, rates are averaging 321% more than usual, with some hotels charging over 1000% more on New Year’s Eve.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in Europe for New Year's Eve. The rates indicated reflect the price for the cheapest available double room in a centrally located hotel (minimum: 3 stars).
